Boo's

I stopped using Yahoo! Answers because of the thumbs up/thumbs down thing, mainly because some answers were stupid or people would troll, hence why they got a thumbs down. It wouldn't make much of a difference. I'm fairly sure half the reason people cheer or boo a person is because they don't agree with their post. Yet I joined FF with the cheers/boos which is almost the same. It doesn't faze me these days, but I'm not one for controversy or pointless fights over the internet so I watch what I say. However, if I did get more boos, I wouldn't really care. I think the system is fine though, from what I've seen in my four months here, nobody really cares about cheers/boos.

Fair enough I can't stop you from being stupid, if you still think you won the debate "good luck" oh no did I just use quotation marks :-[ Somebody stop me

Turns out you're right champ! The forum is for anyone. What we don't need is your type calling people an idiot whenever we think we are simply smarter than the poster.

Again I will say it, just try adding to the forum :P Who the frog cares what I think, simply get amongst it!

Grazz

Yeah what your saying is true for the new members, it would be off putting to post an opinion to only be boo'ed for that opinion. Would make a newer member reluctant to post again. Should be scrapped tbh, doesn't bring that much to the site. As Ive said before how Ringo can have as many boo's as he does is just ridiculous.

Thats where you're wrong though. People do care. Thats why people have voted yes, get rid of the boo's.
As I have said, people that have been on here for a length of time know not to care. People that are new (who are equally as important to the forum and its growth) do care. I can garuntee it is one of the main reasons that the forum has a core group that have stuck on here and a stack load of people that come and go. There is no doubt its intimidating to post your opinion or thoughts on a forum when you know that all of the people on there know each other and have been on there together for a long time. Then when you make a comment you get boo'd 10 times... Really encouraging.

And it's not just trollers that get boo'd If I go onto the Richmond page and start a thread as to why I think Richmond will miss out on the 8 and Hardwick will be sacked at the end of the year. I would cop 20 boo's within 5 minutes garunteed. It wouldnt matter how good my reasons were or if I had some really strong evidence. Its a statement that rubs people the wrong way and they will boo boo boo for voicing an opinion.
On the other hand i could come on with a 10 page report with every player analysed and graded and I might get the odd cheer or 2.
I have taken close notice of it recently. Its just wrong really

Yeah exactly grazz and its not uncommon at all for good posters to have a mountain of boo's.
Ringo gives great advice but it would not be unrealistic for a new comer to question how authentic his advice is when it appears he gets it wrong half the time according to his boo's

kilbluff1985

have you met Jormas on here yet TeeJay lol

Ringo is a classic example, hence i cant help but agree with you and also for the fact new members are discouraged from posting for fear of a boo thinking it is the be all and end all when it really isnt but this takes time here to realise that. Its not just Ringo there are alot of guys who put in a lot of time and effort to assist someone then they get a boo because its not what the holder of the thread wanted to hear, just silly.

Theres always an exception Killbluff lol. But for the most part its a misconception and pretty insulting to peoples reputations. I would be pissed if I had spent years on here helping people out and giving my advice and opinion and had a cheer/boo ratio that made me out to be a bullshower artist.

It was originally brought in as a way to stop people from posting rubbish (as was occurring earlier)

It was brought in after I suggested it to m0nty in a thread. (Might not have been the first to suggest it however)

http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,44847.0.html

^ thread is here... I had a whinge after it was in place for 2 minutes.

As you can read in m0nty's first post there, he /was/ planning to introduce cheer/boo per post, but it has clearly never come to fruition.

EDIT: Can't find the thread where I suggested and m0nty agreed to implement it, but I did find a whining thread lol

Ringo

Can see your point TeeJay and agree with you as I had not previously thought ratios could be a consideration for newbies when looking at who is giving advice.  As I have said previously ratios do not worry me but thanks for putting forward opinion of relative new comers to the forum.

have never really been a fan of the cheers/boo as personalities rather than advice can be the reason behind some of the cheers/boos imo.

Turns out TJs still booing me when he gets the chance :-X

You dont know that for sure mate could be anyone really. Be nice if you two could agree to disagree and just move on.
Ive been mates with Dudge for the best part of thirty years and we dont agree on everything but we can move on because the relasionship is more valuable than being right or the need to be seen as right.

I join in as much as I feel the need/have the time to tbag. Not everyone can be on here 24/7. There is no wrong or right amount of posts to make per week.
Im simply giving an opinion on why I think the booing thing is a flawed and abused tool and should be removed
