Thoughts
The 19th pick in the 2011 draft, Kavanagh had a solid season for the Bendigo Bombers in 2012, he played 13 games averaging 16.2 disposals, 3.6 marks, 4.7 tackles and kicking 8.1. He made his AFL debut in round 18 against Hawthorn where he struggled in the bombers 94 point loss gathering 13 possessions. Kavanagh is a tough inside midfielder with great endurance and is a strong tackler, he also has excellent foot skills, and at the 2011 draft combine he recorded the best result in the kicking test. Before his 2011 season with the Western Jets was hampered by injury he was touted as a top ten pick after a stellar 2010 TAC Cup where he averaged 25 touches and 8.5 tackles. He will be looking for a strong pre season as he still weighs just 75kg, once his body is ready for AFL action he will be one to watch.

Verdict
Kavanagh is a classy player and will be one for the future although I’m not so sure he will get much time in the seniors this year, with the bombers having a very strong midfield along with Goddard joining the club. He should see more AFL action but not enough to warrant a selection in my side, considering the strength in young talented midfielders for 2013.

Prediction
69.

nice one mate

but yeah unlikely to get games this season unless he kills it in the VFL

He'll probably be a decent downgrade option midyear. Clearly not best 22 atm, so it seems he's not one to start with, but he could get a number of games late in the year as he does have decent skills.

IIRC, Kavanagh and Merrett were eased into it this year, hence their VFL stats may be unimpressive because of this.
