A GUNMAN has shot 26 people - including 20 children - at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown,

Western Connecticut, after killing his mother and then turning the gun on himself.

Updates here as they come to hand

Bill Manspeaker

really unbelievable story. saw it on the news last night, made me feel sick

LF

It's so sad all those kids where 6 or 7 years old.
And the teacher Victoria Soto aged 27 hat locked her students in closets and cabinents to save them from the gun man and she was shot and killed.

What pisses me off more than anything is the comments coming out of America regarding gun control.Seriously so many people over there are completely flowered up with their views on guns and have no intention of ever changing them. They go on about their constitutional right to bare arms.America needs to do something drastic to stop this from happening again.

Am I the only one, or are these mass murders becoming nearly so common that you go, 'Yep, saw that coming.' and show less interest, almost getting 'used' to it or finding it somewhat less shocking as each one gets reported?

OR am I avoiding the issue to protect myself emotionally?

Sick and angry and saddened to my very core.

The anguish!  :'(

Mailman the 2nd

Hopefully someone can manage to inform the American public that this sort of thing happens weekly in certain provinces and countries

Ziplock

ahhh, multiple shootings happen every 5 days in america on average.

so, technically once a week :P

that being said, most of those countries/ provinces you're talking about are 3rd world shower hole dictatorships, not a first world democracy... :/

Would not surprise me if some genius comes up with the idea that teachers should be allowed to have guns at school to protect themselves ::)

tor01doc

Hey that's brilliant.

Would certainly get the kids to pay attention.

Would it not be better to say people aren't allowed guns to begin with?

Jukes

Governor Snyder is considering signing legislation that would allow certain people to carry concealed guns in formerly "gun-free" zones such as churches and schools. What are your thoughts about this?

This page was posted by an American friend on FB who actually agrees with it

I'm with the Americans getting to keep their guns.

The crazies will get a gun if they want to kill someone regardless of whether they're banned or not. Any one of us could buy a gun if we /really/ wanted to kill someone (or multiple people) even with the gun ban...

At least this way some people have a way of defending themselves.

I should've been more effected by this story imo, especially as one training to be a primary ed teacher... but I'm a bit like those who have been oversaturated with these stories

^ interesting article about a town/area in the U.S.A. where it's mandatory for the head of a household to own a gun and ammunition.
