Looking at a potential strategy of starting with a strong midfield to get a head start on those that opt to start a few more rookies in the midfield. While I admit the best cash cows will be mids, having 30 trades will be more than enough to generate ample cash to upgrade to a fully premium side.
Thoughts?

NoButYeah

Like the theory behind it but it's left your backline and forward a bit weak. You may gain points over others in the midfield but may also lose points elsewhere. I'd try and get in another premium defender.

 ;) ;) ;)

IMO you're on the right track. Probably about 70+% of coaches will play at least 5 plus rookies in the midfield 10 working on the correct theory that these not only score better than others but also accumulate better financially. Which is all very well but SC is all about points on the board and as all will agree the best scores consistantly come from the mids, followed by the forwards / rucks and lastly the defenders. Perhaps this year it just might pay to fill the lowest scoring lines last in attempt to get the high  points early. Few 2013 mids are priced below their finishing price of 2012 but if the Plan prices are near correct then D Beams is one so he goes straight in my team. Cheers and best of luck.

Its the same discussion every year, and I am not sure who will win next year with the extra slots to play with.

The main issue against stacking your midfield is that traditionally, it is the midfield rookies who make the big $$ you then need to upgrade your other lines. Back rookies and mid pricers especially in years gone by have been very undependable.
This year there are some good risk/reward options in the Fwd line so it could be worth the punt

But specifically on your team your backs and fwds have suffered too much for the midline, that doesn't have GAJ or Swan?

Maintaining the midfield rage!
This team relies on a few midpricers to fire in the back and fwd lines.
I know people will rate this and say its an overkill, I understand that.
We have 30 trades this year.
Back and Fwd premiums cost less than midfield premiums to upgrade to.
Its just a concept I'm toying with in a year where may changes have been made.

:)

kilbluff1985

going to be hard to make the/any cash with only 2 rookie mids

Ringo

only issue I have with the midfield approach Hawks is the bye structure for your premium players.

3 with Round 11 Bye
3 with the Round 13 bye  (including top 2 in Ablett and Pendles.

Just a thought to consider, Even though the top 18 scores will count each  bye round think you will loose ground to other coaches during the byes.

I'm still staying strong in my midfield but I also think the other lines are also strong ( except backline ).

I maintain my theory that backmen score worse than other lines, unless anyone else can beg to differ I only see Goddard and Gibbs as the must haves to start 2013. I have also targeted a few players that I think will get more midfield time, Atley being one of them.
There seems to be more rookie defenders to consider at this stage as well.

I think my top 4 mids will easily feature in the top 10 mids and if Fyfe and Mundy can return to 2011 average ( 108 ) then they represent value and could become keepers.

Rucks self explanitary.

Bud, Cox and Rocky I think are top 6 fwds. As I alluded to with Atley, I think Wright and Breust are candidates for more midfield time and increased averages. I will move Staker back if more rookie fwd options emerge.

I am also a fan of mature aged basement price players, they have proven over the last few years to be durable and good sources of cash. Hence the selections of Goodes Pittard Terlich Jones Currie Macaffer and Lee

D. Beams will probably spend more time down forward, so he may not be such a great pick

I am using similar tactic this year...... I like.

Samm79

Solid team. If I had to be critical a captain in the midfield, an Ablett, Pendles, Swan is required. Maybe downgrade Franklin to a unique in Zorko and upgrade Kennedy or Shuey to one of these 3

I think Samm is on the right track.  I don't agree with your strategy but what Samm suggests is the very least you can do.
