This year i believe we have had one of the better of season then most clubs filling in key areas around our club and this continued throughout the PSD/Rookie draft. So enjoy my write up of the new youngsters at our club.

Pre Season Draft:

Sam Colqouhoun -
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Age: 17
Height: 179cm
Weight: 72kg

Touted by many scouts as a 2nd-3rd round selection many were surprised when his name wasn't called out at all come National Draft day, The night after he get a call from Ken and was training with us the following week. Though other clubs such as Western Bulldogs, Saints and Essendon all wanted him we won in the end.

Sam can play of the half back flank and through the middle at times, He can read the play very well and has excellent kicking skills and is a great decision maker under pressure. He can also take a mark or two, Can play a lockdown role or the attacking defender role and should provide us with great compeition for the half back spot over the coming years.

Power National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker says:
He played 15 games last year in the SANFL reserves as a 16-year-old and then to play a full season this year as a 17-year-old has been very good. We certainly looked at his ability to run hard out of the backline and link up and use the ball very well, but his consistency also caught our eye. I've watched him play a lot over the last two years, every week he just turned up and did what he did very well. He's averaged about 24 possessions at that level which, at that age, is very good. His kicking efficiency is also very high, which is appealing as well.

Rookie Draft

Kane Mitchell
Position: Defender/Midfielder
Age: 23
Height: 174cm
Weight: 76kg
Kane has excellent endurance and probably should of been drafted a couple years ago his only setback is his kicking is quite poor. Throughout his past seasons he has won the Sandover Medal (2012, Receive the equal record 58 votes!), Won the Claremont best and fairest (2011) and Came third at Claremonts best and fairest (2010). Kane averaged 25 disposals in the WAFL this year.

Collingwood and Fremantle were both interested in the 2012 Sandover medalist but eventually we picked him up.

Power National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker says:
He certainly comes in on the back of a couple of really good years. Won the Sandover Medal this year and I though his game in the grand final was exceptional, kicked three goals and was in the top two or three best. He brings some excitement with his ability to run, I think at the combine last year he ran a 2.86s 20m sprint, but he's also got very good endurance. It's not very often you find a speed/endurance package in someone in the rookie draft.

Justin Hoskin
Age: 21.
Height: 184 cm
Weight : 79

Hoskin was close to being drafted last season, He plays the half back role creating even more headaches for the half back spot for Ken, Hosks has good kicking skills and can run all day.

Power National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker says:
Justin was one of the players we had training out here and I thought he showed why he was included in that group. He's very consistent with his training, he's had two solid years of SANFL football even though he's only 21, and he's another defender who can run out of defence and kick the ball well, a bit like Sam Colquhoun. We identified him during the year as a guy we might like to have a closer look at if he wasn’t drafted and, like I said, he impressed us out at training.
