Why does Warner always fail with the slightest bit of pressure?

Its getting really frustrating to watch him get a couple of good scores and do nothing in between them. Cowan also seems to be following the trend

Geez.. Cowan looks out of sorts against spin,,
With the tour of India next , how is he gunna go against them(spinning wickets and all)?
If he fails does he still have a lock on his position for the Ashes tour?  Playing Watson at 4 doesnt seem to be the ideal line up.

If he even bats long enough for spin  ::)

I think Watson definitely needs to open.
Watson, Warner, Hughes, Khawaja, Clarke, Doolan, Wade, Johnson, Siddle, Pattinson, Lyon.

Not a bad 11 for the Ashes if you ask me. Starc, Bird, Maxwell on standby.

Hauritz doesn't even bowl in the Brisbane Heat. Spud alert.

tbagrocks

Lol Hauritz, can't spin a ball to save himself, Lyon is a fine bowler

When does the one dayers start? Or are they having that rubbish and pointless T20 first?

So thats T20?? Alot of players are shower at T20 and better at longer forms
He could spin the ball and was always consistent and could take decent amount of second innings wickets unlike Lyon

Mailman the 2nd

Flip flopping on Lyon to Hauritz now is pointless and will only hinder both further

Why have him in the team if he bats 8 or 9 and doesn't bowl?

Think Hussey gave it to Lyon because he is the only one who looks like he can keep his spot, other than Clarke but he is captain.

Seamers get rotated, Wade is always compared to Haddin and never know what the selectors will do. Cowan and Warner are extremely inconsistent, and Watson isn't even in the team atm - who would you give it to  :P

only thing that needs to happen with Lyon is someone needs to slap him in the face and tell him to bowl more varied pace

colmullet

Lyon is learning, he just needs a little more variation with his pace, his control is pretty good.

Gotta think Huss looked at the team and wanted to pick someone as close to the way he plays the game, Lyon may not be the best player in the world but gives 100% for that team and Clarke, i thought he mighta gave it to Siddle for this reason but after the rotation policy it aint certain he will be there every game

BB67th

I'm sure that just about everyone has seen the squad announced for the ODIs now, but if you haven't the 13 man squad is below. Here's my in-depth take on the side.

George Bailey (captain)
Ben Cutting
Xavier Doherty
Aaron Finch
Brad Haddin
Phillip Hughes
David Hussey
Mitchell Johnson
Usman Khawaja
Glenn Maxwell
Clint McKay
Steve Smith
Mitchell Starc

Warner, Wade and Clarke have all been given a rest. Clarkey obviously needed it with his hammy, but not sure why you would leave our two most explosive batsmen out when they don't look like they need a rest. Looks like the rotation policy is coming into the batsmen as well ::)

Mike Hussey has been left out which is extremely disappointing that he doesn't get a farewell series. We can hope he is given a farewell game when Perth gets an ODI which I believe is early February against the West Indies. Invararity said that they are looking to the 2015 world cup so want to blood some youth instead, but then why is Brad Haddin back in the team over Tim Paine? I tell you this guy has lost the plot.

For the batsmen, it's good to see Phil Hughes and Aaron Finch getting a go, as these two could become quite good one day players in my opinion. Both have been in great Ryobi One Day Cup form this summer and I believe are the two highest run scorers this season so far. I don't know how Khawaja, who I see as more of a test prospect, and Steve Smith (god help us), who doesn't even play cricket, got in over Callum Ferguson. Good to see Bailey still in as he is a decent bat (he has actually been our highest scorer over the past year in ODIs) and a good leader for when Clarke is out. D.Hussey stays in as always, and Glenn Maxwell also still plays.

The bowling attack is interesting, but I think well structured. Starc has shown a lot of promise in the limited overs games and he is in good form, and Mitch Johnson never really lost form with the white ball, and both are very good lower order batsmen. From last summer Clint Mackay is still in the team, and again he is a good white ball player. Ben Cutting gets a go, which is long overdue IMO, as he can pinch hit very well and is a very encouraging young quick. I would've liked to have seen John Hastings and James Pattinson in the side though, but I think Patto is just coming back from his injury? Xavier Doherty is picked as the spinner, as he was in the UAE, he goes alright I think.
So this is the 11 I would run with for the first match, on Friday at the MCG.

1. Finch
2. Haddin (WK)
3. Hughes
4. Khawaja
5. D.Hussey
6. Bailey (C)
7. Maxwell
8. Johnson
9. Cutting
10. Starc
11. Mackay

Play the four quicks and Maxwell and D. Hussey can make up the 10 overs of spin to go along with it.

Overall I am disappointed with the team named and I really think Wade/Paine, Warner, M.Hussey and Ferguson should have been named, but I don't really mind the bowling attack. What are other people's thoughts?
