I didn't see much play as was busy but I thought at 4/200 Huss and Clarke would press to 300 again and save us as usual ???

All those calling for either to bat higher (me only if Pup goes to 3) forget that these two always save our innings at 5/6

That's a moot point imo.

The point is we won't need saving if they bat at 3/4

Then 5/6 can come in without pressure.

Hughes looked very good, hopefully he can become our long term #3

Warner did look good as well and is starting to consolidate his spot

Watson got a start but couldn't go on, Jayawardene's catch was amazing

I still think Cowan is a bit of a weak link though, we've seen what he can do but now he really needs to be more consistent

The Cow needs to learn not to go for a slog in the first session af a test match, this riddiculous 20/20 rubbish is changing the way guys play, for the much, much, much worse!

At least the star Warner has addapted to play Test match cricket well! But for operners like Cowan, 20/20 is the worst thing they could be doing, I hate the froggin game!

tbag obviously forgot about someone called Matthew Hayden. He'd play the pull shot first delivery of a test match if he could. It's not just T20 influencing the game as some like to think. Cowan played the pull shot early in his ton too.

yeah, in those conditions the pull shot was not one appropriate to play, the wicket wasn't bouncing a lot, and with the SL bowlers bowling about 120km/h, the ball just doesn't get up high enough to play an effective pull shot

It wasn't a brain fade. Cowan loves the pull shot its how he scores most of his on-side runs. He just moved across the crease which cramped him up

My opinion.

Cowan out. Hughes to open. Kawaja in and to 3. Or Watson to open andHughes to 4.

Partly agreed. You can't play 4 openers in the one side, since there's no specialist No. 3 (Pup you sook) then there's a case for 3 openers. Cowan doesn't fit, Watson and Warner open, Hughes 3, Clarke/Hussey/Khawaja at 4/5/6 (any order)

Oh yeah I meant Khawaja to go to 4. My bad.

Agreed. Watto and Warner can open, Hughes at 3, and since Pup's not overly keen to move up, Khawaja, Pup and Huss at 4, 5 and 6. I don't like Warner or Cowan to be honest, but I'd probably prefer Warner.

Warner is a good player to have in the side IMO, can get us off to a flying start, which can be very handy. Obviously we don't want to have 4 Warner type players in a test team, but having one can give us a great advantage
