Very happy with the way we drafted having watched highlights

Jimmy Toumpas - So glad we got him, wouldn't have worried if we had got Wines instead but Toumpas'pace and skill set is amazing!

Jack Viney - Obvious by now that he is a steal. Great inside mid.

Dean Kent - Reminds me so much of Colin Sylvia. Hard nut that plays on the ball or at half forward.

Matt Jones - Some other supporters are a bit iffy on him (mainly because they think he could of been there for rookie listing allowing Magner to come onto the main list) but i'm a big fan from the highlights. Looks a good inside prospect who does a lot of grunt work and can also read ruck taps well. Could form a good partnership with Jamar and be a direct replacement for Moloney.

Dean Terlich - Running defender with strong intercept skills and pace. Surely chosen to replace Bartram and add competition for young small backs such as Tappy and Strauss.

If these guys can all have big pre-seasons and work well they all could very well be best 22.

In my opinion best 22 will look like this next year.

B - Daniel Nicholson     James Frawley      Colin Garland

HB - Jack Watts        Tom McDonald      Jack Grimes

C - Colin Sylvia           Jack Viney            Jack Trengove

HF - Shannon Byrnes   Mitch Clark          Sam Blease

F - Jeremy Howe        Chris Dawes         Cam Pedersen

R - Mark Jamar           Nathan Jones        Jordie McKenzie

I - Jimmy Toumpas    Rory Taggert      James Magner      David Rodan

Depth - Tom Gillies   Dean Kent  Matt Jones   James Strauss   Dean Terlich   Max Gawn  James Sellar   Michael Evans   Jack Fitzpatrick   Aaron Davey   Rohan Bail    (Jesse Hogan - 2014)

I am extremely happy with how the list is shaping up.

Yeah +1 definitely

Although I say that as a biased melbourne supporter, I did my own team as well, and I only have two different compared to yours lol, so it looks like there is a clear identifiable core.

I didn't have Taggert or Magner. Instead I had Dunn and Sellar.

Didn't choose Taggert only because he hasn't played a game and I know little about him, and Magner is my first emergency.

Toumpas and Viney were my only debutants, but I still have concerns over the midfield :/ hope Trengove steps up next year. The grunt work is fine but I think Melbourne lack polish and that star midfield player. In time, hopefully Toumpas will be. My predictions of melbournes mid sort of  depend on Jack Trengove becoming a Jimmy Bartel sort of player. If that happens, Sylvia finally pulls his finger out, Grimes continues to develop in the midfield and Nathan Jones continues his outstanding form, then I think Melbourne can FINALLY compete in the midfield. The forward line, backline and ruck are great, its just that midfield is the main problem IMO.

Agree with all of that. Hoping Toumpas adds that star quality, have you seen his highlights yet Purple?

Taggert has bulked up insanely well and should debut this year at some stage, but i agree that Sellar and Dunn are deserving of spots in the 22.

Just going through the highlights now lol, Toumpas seems a fine kick with a good brain

Yeah was just about to comment on him, I was actually just as impressed with his highlights than Toumpas lol, based on those highlights I would have thought he go higher in the draft? Really impressed actually, a young Brent Moloney?

Could very well be, i was thinking more Col Sylvia though?

Matt Jones looks decent in that he is very unselfish. Reads ruck taps well and always dishes off handballs from the pack after gaining possession

Barra17

From a few pics I have seen Kent has a pretty solid build on him. Just what we need.

Barra17

I would have thought Gillies would have slotted straight into the backline aswell?

At this stage its arguable. Garland and Gillies probably fighting it out for the same position, although could include an extra tall down back of which Dunn, Sellar and Gilles would fight it out for.

Tom McDonald at CHB. Is he rated at Melbourne?

Extremely. Everyone rates him very high, he along with Nicholson are the best runners at the club. He has elite Endurance and usually gets the other teams CHF's Riewoldt etc. His kicking is the only thing that lets him down.
