Wow interesting MTTY, cheers for that :)

Grimes, Viney and Terl atm. Can't fit Sylvia in but some good nab form may change that ;)

Garland?

A lot of talk that Gillies, Frawley and McDonald will be favoured over him.

I dont think Jamar is worse than Spencer. Reading through my prospectus, it sounds like he had just as an unimpressive bout of games as Jamar did. IMO I didn't think Spencer was that impressive either. Think the experience and a possible re-occurrence of the 2010 form, even 2011, gets Jamar over the line for me personally.

Have no really other arguments besides Jeremy Howe in the centre line..... I hope he plays anywhere in the forward line. Even though he is very capable in the midfield, its just i think he would be so much more damaging as a forward. The last thing a defender would want is a guy that can jump like Jeremy.

Think we will be forever divided about Davey and Sylvia MTTY lol, but I wouldn't be hugely surprised if they have a better year, so no arguments yet about them in the team  ;)

BTW thanks for keeping the Melbourne Section alive MTTY  :) appreciate the work

MTTY

No worries Purple, happy to keep the section alive with yourself and others.

Really just going off how players have trained during pre-season for that 22. e.g. Davey has returned to his old self, Sylvia is training fairly well (despite having more back troubles recently) and Spencer has apparently been sensational. Word going around is at some stage Spencer (or Gawn) will assume the number 1 ruck role this season.

With Howe i am happy to see him playing as a forward but i think Neeld and co. are trying to utilize his marking on the wing. At training (due to our skill level for the time being) we have been practicing the time consuming but less risk gameplan of moving the ball along the boundary (as opposed to the centre). By having Howe's marking attributes in the midfield, it allows us to transition the ball from the backs to forwards, with less risk (as even if the ball is a howler when kicked out of defence or a floater, chances are that Howe will outmark most players). Along with this he certainly has some attributes and the tank to play on a wing.

Hmm, that is a good point.

Exciting news about Gawn/Spencer! I hope at least one of them does take Jamars' number one ruck role.

Any recent changes you think MTTY? Obviously Gawn won't be until later now...

Not a whole heap.

My current round 1 team

B: Colin Garland, James Frawley, Lynden Dunn

HB: Jack Watts, Tom McDonald, Dean Terlich

C: Colin Sylvia, Jack Grimes, Sam Blease

HF: Jeremy Howe, Cam Pedersen, Aaron Davey

F: Shannon Byrnes, Chris Dawes, Jack Fitzpatrick

R: Mark Jamar, Jack Viney, Nathan Jones

I: Jack Trengove, Jordie McKenzie, David Rodan, Tom Gillies

E: Jake Spencer, Dan Nicholson, Jimmy Toumpas

Fringe: Neville Jetta, Michael Evans, Matt Jones, James Strauss

*Note - Mitch Clark will most likely not play round 1, otherwise he will be in ahead of Fitzpatrick

**Note - At this stage Jimmy Toumpas debuting round 1 is still up in the air, my guess is he won't in round 1 but may in rounds 3 - onwards

Interesting Davey still has a walk in start to the Dees lineup after a couple of lacklustre years one would think he might slowly be slipping out of the Demons best 22.

Would have been clearly out this year, but has been back into the shape of his career this pre-season. The will to be the best has come back to him.

Vincent

Magner will be in. Pederson hasn't shown anything and doesn't deserve a spot. Dawes and Sellar are all the tall forwards you need.

Purple 77

If fit, is Mitch Clark in your team MTTY?

Also, been very impressed by Dean Kent! Probably more than Viney and Toumpas really, would have loved to see one of them go really well in a game, like 20 possessions or so, but I suppose its only NAB cup; the time for experimenting and the time where 100% game time is hard to come by for a player.

But yeah, Dean Kent has been a surprise for me! Not much to argue in that team for me; maybe Neville Jetta, but he has been going guns lately, so will give him a chance. Otherwise, Terlich or Nicholson for me. Just looking at the team, was looking for a place to sneak Magner in, but cant find one  :-\

Speaking of Magner, I really hope we dont use him in a defense and/or negating role, because although he is good at that, as he is one of a rare few in Melbourne that is disciplined enough to do it, he made his name in the VFL as the top possession getter for the whole year of 2011, so shouldn't we use him as a ball...... magnet...... :P. We did in the first two games last year and never since. Ppl say those were his best games...

Valid opinion. I'll elaborate, Magner out for me as his disposal is horrid, can only afford to carry one of him or McKenzie. Seeing as McKenzie is a better tagger he stays, even though Magner may be a ball Magnet, use is much more key right now for us.

Three talls in attack are needed, as was shown when Hogan and Dawes tried to combine in the nab cup, Dawes was doubled team and taken out of the game. Pedersen is a better option than Fitzpatrick as a Tall target and much more versatile, so he stays. (Until Clark is back).

Agree with you on those points Purple. Kent been super impressive, reminds me a lot of Sylvia but with work ethic. Terlich very unlucky not to make my team, just feel Gillies is needed as an extra tall, given the amount of times Garland can turn into a liability, and the fact that Watts and Dunn will be distributors and not Key backs.

On Magner, as said above, the ball use keeps him out for me. We didnt really do much tagging in the NAB but i'm fairly certain Neeld would be keen on using him in that role if two taggers are needed or McKenzie is out. As a ball magnet he is a great player, but needs to work on that distribution to get into the team as one.

Yes Mitch would be in my team if fit, as would Gawn, Blease and Trengove (wouldn't be sub), but i'm not confident that any of them will be fit enough.
