This is my top 30 mock draft for this years draft. Im not going to give a massive rundown on every player, by now you probably know all the stats, I'll just give a brief rundown on why i picked them there, feedback encouraged :P

EDIT: O'Rourke to pick 2.

Top 40

1. L.Whitfield- GWS

Why: Not much needs to be said here. Whitfield is a certainty to go in the first three picks. It is almost a known fact that he will go number one. GWS have said they will pick the best players when available, he definetly fits that category.

2. J'O Rourke- GWS

Why: This seems to be happening, im think his so overrated, but he may very well go pick 2.

3. L.Plowman- GWS

Why: Let me start this by saying, GWS pick three will shape the entire first round. Everything will change upon who gets this pick. The favorite seems to be Plowman, and with good reason. He is the clear best key defender in this draft, and I don't think that GWS have full faith in Tim Mohr to be Davis #2 just yet. I can't see Grundy. If it wasn't Plowman, it would probably be Menzel or Toumpas.

4. J.Toumpas- Melbourne

Why: Toumpas would be a steal at pick 4, he is better then O'Rourke and would be a padlock if he slips past GWS.

5. O.Wines- W-Bulldogs

Why: Wines is classy midfielder and is deserving of higher, but it looks like he will land at the doggies. I think Wines should go to Melbourne, but he would be good at dogs in a few years. I wouldnt be trusting him too avoid the vest though, shades of Wingard.

6. T.Menzel- W-Bulldogs

Why: Menzel is worthy of a top 3 pick, but with his knees I could easily see him slip to the doggies at pick 5-6. Western Bulldogs need for any forward player, I could see him predominantly playing forward.

7. B.Grundy- Port Adelaide

Why: The exact same position as Plowman, but in terms of a ruck. He is comfortably the best ruck in this draft, and port are in massive demand for a ruck. He is ready to go, and will be pad locked to the power if he gets past pick, ignore the Mayes hype Grundy would come first, if available.

8. K.Jaksch- Brisbane

Why: This to me look sewn up. Jaksch is a versatile player who can play either ends of the ground, which perfectly suit the lions needs considering there constant experiment to make a defender there next forward, Jaksch will fit in perfectly.

9. J.Stringer- Richmond

Why: A Utility who could provide good supports for J.Riewoldt, and also in the midfield. Could see him slip down to 10-20, but predicting the tiges at pick 9

10. J.Daniher- Essendon

11. J.Macrae- Carlton

Why: Because Carlton have showed the most interest and havent really thrown any one elses name up. I completely disagree with this pick, he is not right for Carlton, and Malthouse has to get his c**p in order. Carlton have well documented problems up forward that are being ignored, why go after another midfielder, i don't know, but i think they will.

12 S.Mayes- GWS

Why: Because he is the best player to this point and if GWS go by there word I would expect Mayes to be taken at pick #12. I think Mayes is worthy of going higher, but I think Jaksch is going to Brisbane and I think the moron recruiters at Carlton have there heart set on Macrae, if I were choosing I would he'd be snatched at pick 11.

13. T.Clurey- Gold Coast

Why: With May being developed as a forward, and Bock still injured, Gold Coast are in dyer needs of a key back. Expect too see him go pick 13.

14. J.Simpson- GWS

Why: Sticking with the theme of picking "best available players," Simpson looks the goods to go at pick 14. His lightning quick pace and outstanding class, would fit perfectly with there upcoming midfielders.

15. N.Hrovat- North Melbourne

Why: He fits in at north with his class and skill, but I don't think his the right option. I would prefer to see Lonergan or Kennedy go to the blue and white, but Hrovat's good enough.

16. N.Vlastuin- Geelong

Why: Even with the pick up of Caddy and the returning Menzel, Geelong's needs arent exactly for filled. Not too mention, with the current generation on its way out Vlastuinr will be potentially a great player for the cats.

17. M.Shaw- Fremantle

Why: Fremantle weren't chasing Cloke for no reason. They are looking for support for the almighty Pavlich, who's getting older. Mason Shaw has already be linked with the dockers and has a bucket of potential as a key forward, expect him to go pick #17.

18. D.Gartlett- Collingwood

Why: If the pies are lucky enough for Gartlett to still be at offer at pick 18, padlock him down. Since Davis left, we went and got Marty Clarke, the pacy irishman didn't exactly fill Davis's void, but Gartlett very well could. He also fits in with the several other players with ego problems, perfect fit.

19. T.Membrey- Collingwood

Why: The pies rightfully got rid of Dawes and now need a long term soloution. We saw what happened to Cloke when to much pressure was put on him, and Lynch isn't a long term solution. I'm not sure which key forward they will take, but they will definetly take at least one with one of there three first round picks.
a gun.

20. B.Kennedy Collingwood

Why: Let me start this with an apology, I am sorry that I ever had Kennedy lower then pick 20. He is a gun, for mine a top 10 pick, but wont be selected there. I think its his height, but small midfielders have proven they can be just as dynamic. Collingwood would have to be on crack to let him slip past pick 20.

21. A.Corr- W-Bulldogs

Why: With Lake, Hargrave and Gilbee gone dogs will be looking to young backmen, and keys, Corr is a key back who's name has jumped up a lot last minute, tough call, but im going with the doggies.

22. T.Garner- Sydney

Why: With the older generation of the swans on its way out, Garner will fit in with the younger group, as the next generation of the swans. I expect him to go to the swannies

23. N.Graham- Brisbane

Why: N.Graham is another genuine utility who can play mid or forward, but i predominetly see him as a forward. With the lions still expereminting with there team Graham is one who could be put anywere and do well, would be a great fit for the lions.

24. T.Smith- StKilda

Why: With the saints missing out on Mitch Brown, they will use one of the there two second round picks on a key defender. It's most likely between Smith and Tippet, but I will back in Smith.

25. B.Jacobs- StKilda

Why: Saints need a running back with Gram and Goddard gone. Jacobs is a future gun, would be a steal at pick 25.

26. J.Viney- Melbourne

27. S.Colquhoun- GWS

Why: His a gun, and with the theme "best available players" he couldnt be ignored at pick 27. I expected him to go to the crows until the shocking news of there surrendering there first and second round picks, wow they must be guilty.

28. J.Lonergan- Hawthorn

Why: Not saying Hawks need anyone, but with some good midfield rookies, look for them to further there young depth, especially in the midfield. Lonergan is a good yet ripe midfielder who could be emerging as Hodgey and Mitch are leaving with the other youngsters.

29. J.Tippet- Port Adelaide

Why: Would be a steal at pick 30. With the loss of Jacobs and Carlile, the power will be looking for new defenders. Tippet fits the catergory perfectly.

30. T'O Brein- Port Adelaide

Why: A genuine key to fit the patterns of keys in this draft. If port want to get serious they have to start, by having some decent keys, to pick up Tippet, O' Brein and Grundy they would think there dreaming

31. N.Wright Richmond

Why: N.Wright is a hard defender who is yet another utility. I thought he was sewn up to go top 30, but with Adelaide's surrendering of picks, he may slip this far. He will emerge with the young backline, a steal at 31.

32. D.Towers- Brisbane

Why: At this point I cant see what the lions need. If Towers, a talented key midfielder slipped this far I could see the lions pouncing.

33. K.McIntosh- Richmond

Why: Need some defensive depth, McIntosh provides that perfectly, would be a great pick at 33

34. T.Broomhead- Essendon

Why: Let me start by saying I think Broomhead is better then this, but one midfielder will slip through and I could see him, fortunetly for the bombers be it. A Midfield utility to boost the bombers midfield youth stocks.

35. S.White- Carlton

Why: A developing key forward which the blues desperately need. it could be one of a few, but im going with white, he already has links with the blues.

36. M.Wood- Fremantle

Why: M.Wood is another key forward in the works, and would be fitting along Shaw. The two would emerge at similar times with the new generation of picks, would be a good pick for the dockers.

37. J.Thurlow- North Melbourne

Why: Thurlow is a gun, but probably doesn't have the highest demand of rebounding defenders for some odd reason. He is a ball magnet and North are DESPERATE for some rebounders. If he slipped this far North would be doing cartwheels

38. L.McBean- Collingwood

Why: When I first thought of this I thought I had hit a stroke of genius. McBean is a ruck forward, which collingwood have well documented problems with. Lynch is a short term soloution possibly while we could develop McBean as his successor.

39. T.Temay- Fremantle

Why: Good rebound defender, who has some work to do. I think freo will look to cement some strong rookies with this years draft to make a premiship run the next 5 years.

40. R.Atkins- StKilda

Why: Saints have one of the weakest midfield's in the league. I am predicting a meltdown in the next few years at StKilda. They way to prevent it would be too get some genuine good players in the draft, and a good midfielder like Atkins at 40 would be a start.

That's it for this mock draft. I rushed through the end a bit let me know your thoughts on the added 10, did I miss anyone?

Torpedo10

if Stringer and Kennedy go at 16 & 24 they'll be the biggest steals in a draft ever.

tbagrocks

Yeah nice attempt but some like above, Stringer and also no way Adelaide will pass up Kennedy, gutsy call on Jacobs but he could easily go that early, Mayes is far to talanted to drop out of the 10, otherwise good selections

Adelaide are in more needs for a rebound defender then a midfielder, I think he actually could slip to 24, it would be ridicolous, but its possible.

Mr.Craig

If pretty much all of us agree Macrae is better than O'Rourke then surely the clubs must be on the same page, regardless of any speculation that may be floating around. I think sanity will prevail and he'll go early.

Good list, pretty much in line with my thinking. Bit surprised to see Sauce Jacobs going to the Bulldogs. ;)  ;D

Toga

Nice work mate.

Although it sounds like Vlastuin is a good chance to go to the tigers, I'm a bit surprised by that actually. While I wouldn't be complaining if we ended up with him, I just see blokes like Mayes and Stringer to be more skilful than Vlassy so I'd be surprised if we passed them up...

Um, don't you have O'Rourke going higher than Macrae in your latest mock draft? And don't most people have O'Rourke going higher? What the hell are you talking about? ???

Listen buddy, stop trolling me. I made a mistake okay. I'm starting to think Macrae will go higher than O'Rourke. Deal with it.
