QuoteSeveral draft specialists believe that WA lad Dayle Garlett may not get drafted at all this coming Thursday.

So serious have his off-field issues been, Garlett who was once touted originally as a top five selection, may now have plummeted out of calculations altogether.

We are not 100% on the finer details surrounding his misdemeanors off field, but Emma Quayle has informed us that 10 clubs have said a blunt "no way" to the possibility of recruiting Garlett.

In the past few days draft experts are all starting to talk about the likelihood of Garlett's name not being read out at all.

While this is just from an FB page, it might not be incredibly accurate, but the page has been reliable so far... :o

Does anyone know what this kid even did?! ???

No idea what he did, but if he was that talented to begin with, you'd think someone would take a shot at him with there last pick.

While there are plenty of success stories in the later part of the draft, most of them don't do anything, so why not?

Unless he really is that bad :/

Bet you he can beat John Worsfold in a time trial

Lol yeah I'm sure he could :P

IS this the kid that got kicked out of the Academy??

AFEV

I seriously doubt it.
Whiel his off-field issues are bad he's just way too talented not to get drafted. Somebody will take a punt with a 4th round pick...surely.

Was one of my favourite players coming out of this draft. :(

There is a picture floating around of him with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

Dayle Garlett

Birthday - 9/1/94
181cm/75kg
Club - Swan Districts
Fanplanner Price - $128,200

Dayle Garlett (cousin of Jeff Garlett) is an excitement machine who rightly has recruiters and DT coaches licking their lips. He is a left-footed outside midfielder who possesses all the atributes you'd expect from a young indigenous player - speed, goal smarts and quick decision making. He still needs to work on his defensive efforts and aside from that the biggest issue is with discipline. He was kicked out of the AIS-AFL Academy, moved out of home for a period of time and has been plagued by rumours of poor application.

Fortunately he is now back at home, has a steady girlfriend, is contributing to the David Wirrpanda Foundation and working rigorously on building muscle. While doubts still persist about his personality, there is no questioning what he could bring to the table for a club willing to take the punt. He averaged 79.2 DT points in the Under 18 Championships and 77.4 in his 7 WAFL League games this season. Garlett will be closely watched at the upcoming AFL Draft Combine and is expected to be taken in the first 20 picks of this year's draft.

Yeah I loved his highlights package, think he's a great young talent.

I agree with you, it would be worthwhile taking a punt on him with a later pick for sure! Dane Swan and Dayne Beams have had off-field issues, so have a number of Other players so you'd think he will still get picked up...

JBs-Hawks

You could see why the younger teams and up and coming teams wouldnt want him around.

But teams like Hawthorn, Collingwood, Sydney, Geelong, Carlton who all have strong leadership and good cultures would take the punt and turn him around.

Capper

Would not be surprised if the Pies or Swans took him, but i dont think he will be there for the Swans @ 23

Mr.Craig

I just read about this on Callum Twomey's phantom draft at AFL.com and can't stop shaking my head.

There is no question he is one of the top 20 most talented players in the draft pool. He hasn't stabbed anyone or totalled dozens of cars...give him a couple of years in the system and he'll be a fine player for any club who is willing to take the "risk".

Yeah seen that's as we'll valk. It would be crazy if he didn't get picked up as Garlett is definitely a top 20 pick with talent but off field stuff have put some clubs off. According to Emma Quayle, up to 10 clubs have said the wont draft him at all

kilbluff1985

will get picked up might be later then expected or in the rookie draft

just need to make him room mates with a senior player and keep an eye on him as said prob better off at a senior team like Swans, Hawks, Pies or Cats
