Greg Swann told the club website it was
"incredible to think the changes are being made in the final year of an existing six-year deal that has already been approved by the AFL."

The AFL flip flop on things all the time, no big surprise they did it again...

Though it does strange to do it in the last year of the contact, the bigger question is how it was approved in the first place.

I think Collingwood tried to do basically the exact same thing with Travis Cloke but were told we couldn't, so why is it fair that Carlton can keep doing it?

Strange here especially the last year of an approved contract.  As Oss says why approved initially by the AFL.

The AFL needs to draw a line in the sand and make a definitive ruling on 3rd party contracts.  We can not have the situation where some are included in cap and others are not.

maybe the simple solution may be to allow 3rd party contracts to a value of say $250k pa per club outside the cap so long as they are registered with the AFL.

Gotta agree 100% Marcz, i think after whats happened at Adelaide theyve decided to change tact again and really tighten up on the third party deals. No doubt a few clubs would of been using the Judd deal as an example for their own wants and he may just be a victim of that. But in saying that i have to say the Judd deal is a little suss but they let it run 5 out of the six years so why now unless they are going to revamp the whole aspect of third party deals which in all honesty needs to be done.
