Okay, so I don't have a team to post as of yet because I'm a complete and utter noob as far as DT is concerned, always been a Supercoacher. I've pre-registered for DT the past two years and have totally forgotten about my side after Round 1. This year, however, I want have a real crack at it, although admittedly I'm not expecting much.

Any tips for a first timer? Could just be must-haves, dos and don'ts or whatever. Any glaring differences between DT and SC? I'll take it all on board and create a team after that for reviewing and post it here again on this thread.

Just possessions matter, efficiency doesn't.  Swan and Ablett are the must haves, but their inflated starting prices can be a turnoff.

The basics are the same like starting with rookies and upgrading/downgrading them to make money and keeping premiums.

My main don't is to not pick up a cheap premium based on form - they lose value for a reason

Nige

Sounds fairly straightforward and similar to SC, I'll make a team and see how we go.

Unless there is an injury involved. Pendles and Murphy are prime examples. You get someone who can average around 115 for as much as 60k less in the case of Murphy. Oh, and LeCras.

But yeah, it's not that different to SC, you just have to ignore efficiency :)

Guess that explains why Swan and Ablett are the golden boys, racking up stacks of possies and all. Whereas some other players are so efficient, yet barely get the pill. You would think efficiency would be rewarded, but oh well.

I probably should've mentioned that most injuries are exempt

That's generally a given

Boyd is another, high on pocessions but low on efficiency

Pet Rock Squad Fanplanner squad in the Dream Team competition coached by Nigey95. Salary cap left: $2,500.

Brendon Goddard, Jack Grimes, Bryce Gibbs, Pearce Hanley, Nathan Bock, Cameron Pedersen, Lachlan Plowman
Sam Colquhoun, Tanner Smith

Dane Swan, Gary Ablett jnr, Matthew Boyd, Patrick Dangerfield, Angus Monfries, Oliver Wines
Jaeger O'Meara, Jack Viney

Nic Naitanui, Matthew Leuenberger
Majak Daw, Jarrod Witts

Lance Franklin, Matthew Pavlich, Harley Bennell, Chris Knights, Robbie Gray, Mark LeCras, Jake Stringer
Clay Cameron, Tim Membrey

Thoughts/opinions for a beginner's squad?

Toga

Good base team Nigey. I'd make a few changes though:

Backs: very strong, really like them! Only concern is whether bock will be back and ready to go round 1.

Mids: all the guns, good to fit swanny an Ablett in the same team, although this may cost you in other areas of the ground. I'm still not sold on dangerfield, and I think monfries is too risky. I'd downgrade monfries to a rookie (crouch, macrae?) and upgrade daner to Cotchin probably. I've only started gaj and not Swan because of prices, and have pendles instead. If you sealed swan for pendles that could free up more cash to use on your forwards.

Rucks: very good!

Fwds: probably the weakest link on your team. Doing the monfries/dangerfield/swan trade would free up a bit of cash, and with that I'd probably trade up knights or Gray to another established premo (maybe rocky, robbo) and it'll be looking much better. Bennell may be a good POD, like dusty martin, but I think maybe zaha would be a better pick at that price

All up, not a bad first effort mate! Happy to help out more if you need any more advice! :)

Updated version, make what you will of it. I think it's an improvement.
- Gray out, Tex in.
- Boyd out, Zaka in.
- Bock out, Tom Murphy in.
- Danger out, Cotch in.

Tom Murphy is an interesting one. Might do well up at Gold Coast. Other than that, backline is solid.
Move Zaharakis into the forwards. Probably get rid of Walker. (Love him as a player, not sure if he is DT relevant though)
Then you want a Murphy/Pendles/Redden to replace Zaharakis in the mids. Consider downgrading Swan to one of them and replacing Zaka with another.

13Brummy

Try and stay away from KPPs (except Buddy and Pav) as they are not really DT relevant.

Players like Lachlan Plowman and Jake Stringer will have an inflated price due to being first round draft picks but won't score well enough to justify selection at their prices

Also Danger, while he was great for DT last year as a fwd, I would only really consider a SC super-premium

Capper

Nice team Nige.

A couple of things
NicNat is more a SC player instead of a DT player, maybe sauce, Goldy (like everyone else), Maric or Minson
Sorry for mentioning Boyd, stay away from him this year, dogs are shot.
Dont start any DPP in your mids, if yoiu are going to have a DPP in your mids make it someone cheap on your bench. All DPP players should be in there other position if they have a mid DPP. (ie play zaha forward)
KPPs need alot of the ball to score well. If a FF kicks 8 goals he may still only score 90 points if he has 8 kicks total, where in SC it would be alot more. In saying that Buddy and Pav will roam to find the ball but i cant see Tex getting out of the 50. If the crows play well then i can see Tex getting alot of ball but be careful

I'd definitely be avoiding Plowman, however Stringer averaged 105 in the TAC and even though the AFL will be a huge step up I still think he can make some decent cash. I currently have him, Atkins and McDonough as my last 3 forwards but I've got my eye on a few other guys too.

As mentioned Nigey, move Zaha to the fwds, either at the expense of Walker or Bennell. Then maybe replace Knights with one out of Menzel, Varcoe, Nicoski, Macaffer, Staker and you should be able to then afford Murphy or Redden.
