Was a brilliant ball that'd get most batters.

We were 3/55 and under lots of pressure when Warner scored his century ;).

Well not looking good now. Does anyone else think that Phil Hughes should come in at first drop and allow Watson to move down the order a bit?

Jay

Honestly, I think Watson is an over-rated batsman. Normally your best bat comes in at 3 or something similar - Watson averages mid-30s and has only made 2 centuries...

more suited to being a one-day batsmen imo, would probably be better down the order in test matches

Yes he is definitely better than a 37 average player, but he still has to prove that. I say move him down to 5 with Hughes at 3 and Clarke at 4 for the next test.

Watson used to bat down the order fellas. He made his career something again by moving to No. 1. And that is where he should be, opening the batting with Cowan. Hughes at 3.

If Cowan and Clarke can stick in for a very long haul there's still chance of salvation.

I doubt it though

Fail Hughes?

I think I'd rather forfeit...

They would need to stay in until tomorrow morning at the least. Worth noting though that at least today's top order failures have brought 100 runs.

Stranger things have happened.

If SA doesn't keep up first class bowling it could happen, although as I said, I doubt it

Our Top 3 are weak... With Ricky gone I think Khawaja has to come in at 3 and Watson down to 6 with Clarke and Hussey at 4 and 5.

Khawaja is solid and hopefully he can give us a reliable first drop because Warner and Cowan are not consistent enough - we need more of the 100-plus opening stands we use to get with Langer and Haydos. Watson ain't a number 3 and he bowls so much so he needs to be managed to prevent further injuries. Batting at 6 might help that

Life After Ponting should look like this:

Warner
Cowan
Khawaja
Clarke
Hussey
Watson
Wade
Pattinson
Siddle
Hilfenhaus/Cummins/Johnson
Lyon

with Hughes, Starc and even Doolan knocking down the door

PowerBug

Watson will not go back to 6. He's a batting All-Rounder now, not a genuine AR. If he's not in the top 6 batters he shouldn't be playing me thinks.
