Surely a double century gives it to Clarke.

He saved Australia's 1st innings bacon as much as Plessis saved S.A's

Du Plessis batted for almost 10 hours, Clarke did it in 4, And the thing is, even without Clarkes double ton we still mightve won, without Du Plessis there wouldve been no 5th day. So try and see that someone actually did better than Clarke for a change.

Plus Du Plessis did it on debut. ;)
Clarke came in at 3/55 in the first innings and went on to make 230.

The innings was just as important in my opinion just he didn't do it on the 4th/5th day.

South Africa never wanted to win that game. Mayswell just of ended it after Australia declared yesterday
flowering boring South Africans :P still don't think they realise that they did not win the game. Definitely don't look like the 'no.1 side in the world'.

Well the squad has already been announced for the next test. Quiney is out for Watson, Pattinson out for injury and three bowlers added in Johnson, Hazlewood and Hastings.

I think we are likely to play 4 quicks at the WACA and of those included I would like to see Hastings get a run, as he is in great form with the ball and can contribute quite well with the bat. Starc would of course also come in along with Siddle and the Hilf.

Then to accelerate after lunch like they did, like 180 runs in that session when I thought they would consolidate for half an hour, Clarke had other ideas, mom Clarke!

Offical lineup for 3rd test against SA

Named the 14 for Perth, Watson back in for Quiney as expected and the big Duke Hastings gets rewarded for good Sheffield Shield form, Hazlewood and Johnson also into the 14...will be interesting to see if we do end up playing 4 quickies, and if we do who would it be? Short turnaround and Sids/Hilfy did a LOT of bowling, perhaps they may not pull up.

EDIT: Looks like I'm a bit late to the party...oh well.

Siddle, Hilfy, Starc, Hastings, Johnson, Hazlewood vying it out.

Personally I'd like to see Siddle, Starc, Hastings and Johnson, may be a bit harsh on Hilfy, my left armer bias kinda helps Johnson :P

Windigo

Johnson deserves a spot with good effort in shield games.  :)

So glad Quiney is gone.

I hope you weren't serious there.

Great match, loved it. Shame about the runs but that's test cricket, sometimes it's slow but it's just as exciting, if not more exciting than the other formats.

Well in my eyes most fans/people around cricket consider 50+ a success...

Therefore DuPle had 2 successes... a 50 and an UNBEATEN ton.

Clarke killed 1 innings and meh 1 innings. If you compare DuPle had a better average. The key difference for MOTM though (imo) DuPle = PREVENTED a loss singlehandedly. Clarke didn't guarantee a win or secure a draw. Also if DuPle failed probably in either innings it would've been super loss. If we didn't have Clarke's double ton, there was still Huss and Warner to save the innings.

Yes Clarke did get a wicket... but DuPle SAVED SA more than Clarke did Australia...

Therefore DuPle = rightful MOTM imo.

unfortunately sarcasm does not really show through the internet. ;)

However I stand by my point that S.Africa dont really look like the best team in the world. Been outplayed by Australia both tests...

Ok, good, good thing i check before going off at you hey? :P I think the loss of Duminy hurts alot more than people think. His change up spin would've made a massive difference and probably eased the pressure on Tahir. Also, yes they've been outplayed, but they are playing away and the score is 0-0, so they've found a way to draw. ;)

Hoping for a result in the 3rd test though, but still a tense game like Adelaide's. :D

Yeah we had'em, but the showed the fight required to be the No 1, and while we don't deserve the one atm, it shouldn't be to long before we're back there ;D I'm confident now that Khawaja and Hughes will step in and dominate! The young bowlers write their own ticket and while in the transition mode, we almost stole the No 1 ranking today! Yeah we were robbed of it but you still need to win! Pattinson would probably have changed the out come but we go to Perth now needing ti win..

Bring It On!!

Capper

Starc deserves his spot in front of Johnson. Lyon bowled 50 overs in that 2nd innings and may need a rest. 4 quicks maybe??

Everyone is really overlooking the loss of Kallis... yes he batted but losing him as a bowler was a huge loss... He was 2/19 and their best bowler pre-injury. Could've been an Aussie LOSS if Kallis remained fit...

Though if Kallis was injured and Pattinson fit probably would've been an Aussie win...

But 1st test - they were 1 entire player short a very top notch test bat
2nd test - their best bowler for the match got injured.

Can't really say "they don't look like the best" when we've only seen 10/11 of a team in one match and 10.49/11 in the other

tbagrocks

I agree that they have been down with injuries however I do not believe they would have won a Test, yes Kallis was his brilliant best on day one, but it took a massive effort not to lose and I for one am disappointed
