You guys are a bit rough on Warner imo... let him get his feet first...

Australian current crickets tons per innings:

Hussey 1 ton every 7.94 innings
Michael Clarke 1 ton every 7.26 innings

David Warner is only JUST behind them and has scored 1 ton every 8 innings. And his 180 was a great test-like ton...

Therefore give him a break and give him a chance imo. Drop Ponting and bring Watto in @ 4.

Mailman the 2nd

Nails, you know perfectly why Warner has more 100s per innings than Ponting.

Watson is the perfect top order batsman. He's agressive, but he combines this with strong defensive play.

Warner reminds me too much of Phillip Hughes (and Ponting when he sucked badly). He just keeps falling for the same deliveries.

I'll be honest, any game where both teams can make 450+ with 4 centuries and a double century included is pretty shower. The best bowling line-up in the world could do nothing with the pitch apart from Morkel every now and then. Don't get me wrong, I love watching people bat like Amla, Kallis, Cowan and Clarke (and Hussey :P). It's just that I feel there's been nothing overly exciting except for Cowan's maiden test century and Clarke passing the 1000 run mark for the year. Steyn, Philander and Morkel are three world class bowlers but we're yet to see much from any of them.

AND BRING IN TAHIR FFS! ::)

Bring on Adelaide, I say.

P.S. I've never really been one to take sides, just like seeing good cricket and while the batting's been great, we've seen nothing as far as bowling/fielding is concerned.

Haha.  If Warner had played as many innings as Hussey, Clarke or Ponting then I would agree with you, but there is no way Warner is going to be anywhere near that kind of average if he ever plays that many innings.

Warner is in awful form and we need a steady opening pair.  Warner does not provide stability.  He scores quick, but more often than not he'll get out under 10-15 runs.  I'd rather have Watson and Cowan open.  Those two could be a great opening pair.

The best thing Pup ever did was get rid of that flowering dog Bingle, since then he has been amazing with his batting and leadership
Still a knob though

The fact Michael Clarke is only 6th in ICC rankings for bats is a joke...

He has averaged 57+ since being captain. Should be better imo.

Across Warner's last 6 tests (this one not included) Warner has averaged 63.83... had pretty good form and a bit rough to drop him...

If you include this test he still averages like 54.

Warner's average is inflated by that 180.  Other than that he has done nothing in recent times.  There's no denying his talent, but he just doesn't look comfortable lately, and that's a problem, considering you need your openers to get you off to a good start.

Sorry Chelsk, I think you're a top notch member on this forum...

But saying a century inflates an average is stupid (IMO)

Ponting's 50 average is inflated by all his centuries and Glenn McGrath's bowling average looks better because of all the 5WI he has got...

Stupid to say, they got them. Warner's 180 increases his average just like a duck/under 15 score does. You have to count them all. An average is just that, you just can't take out the best scores.

Good effort there. Review, century, out. Crazy three balls. I want more excitement like that!

My point is, his average doesn't tell the full story.  You can't pick players purely based on average, you have to pick them on current forum, and at the moment Warner is in very poor form.  He doesn't look confident, he gets squared up far too often which results in him getting caught behind the stumps more times than not.  I just think he needs a rest from test match cricket so he can recharge and get back into the form we all know he is capable of.

Wade's having a great time out there at the moment, lol.
