Pretty awful news with what happened to Duminy. Something I saw on the Cricinfo site:

Graham has an interesting thought. "Duminy was yet to play a part in this game. I think the spirit of cricket would be championed by Aus allowing a replacement in this situation ..." We were talking about that in our offices last evening, and though it's a worthy thought, the game has already taken shape and allowing South Africa to change their XI would be poor strategy. Had it happened after the toss but before play began, during the warm-ups for example, then it could have been done.

Would it be fair to allow the South Africans a replacement?

Just got another post regarding the Duminy situation after I refreshed and thing site updated.

Venkat has more on the hypothetical Duminy debate. "Adding to Graham's thought: As Duminy hasn't participated at all, it would be fair to allow a replacement player of a similar skill (in this case Faf du Plessis) and not provide the team with open options. This way it would be still be fair enough and we ll have an even contest instead of 10 vs 11."

I don't think it's fair.  In soccer if a player comes on, doesn't get involved in play, then gets injured the team doesn't then get to retract their sub just because he wasn't involved at all.  Of course, we need all the help we can get at this stage, so I may be a bit biased.

as i said. Very surprised indeed that we got a full day of cricket yesterday even if SA battered well. I think SA will play out for the draw with the Duminy injury and the rain about today and tomorrow
