By the end of this week the first test of the summer will be underway and this is the thread to discuss the series on!
Wattos out so the team will most likely be

Warner
Cowan
Quiney
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey (those 3 will prob switch around, Clarke strong chance to bat 4)
Wade
then 4 out of Siddle,Starc,Hilfy,Pattinson, Lyon and Hazlewood
now that Watons out a 4 pace attack is more likely with Hazlewood missing out however i see Starc missing if Lyon plays

I don't think Hazlewood is a real strong chance to play, I think he was just really added to get some experience of being with the team. I still think Lyon will play as the selectors really like him, but I would not be surprised if he misses all the same. The top order also looks a little fragile and I don't know why they brought in Quiney. Why pick someone who will retire in the next 3 years for his debut now. If they want experience than go for Rogers or D.Hussey instead?

Also to all those saying that SA will smash Aus. Everyone said the exact same thing about India killing us last year nad look what happened there. I say bring on the first test!

Ponting no guarantee either, I wouldn't mind seeing Christian in there so the team looks like this

Cowan
Warner
Quiney
Clarke
Hussey
Wade
Christian
Siddle
Pattinson
Hilfenhaus
Lyon

Starc as the 12th man

Capper

Quiney in for Watson.

first test squad

so it will be
Cowan
Warner
Quiney
Clarke
Ponting (Hughes in of Ponting out)
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Pattison
Hilfenhaus
Starc

Lyon 12th man for me

Agree with Tabs here. Although I'd rather Doolan as Ponting's backup

I reckon Maxwell over Quiney. Adds spin variety as I think Starc should play

Thats a horrible line up, already to aggressive bringing quiney in cant make it more aggresive with Christian too. Quieney and Christians techniques have no chance of standing up to morkel, philander and Steyn for extended periods of time. Looks like we gotta hope for another captains series by Clarke. T20 has flowered our batting line up.

Yes I think Maxwell over Quiney would have been a good option. Maxwell is young, but has proven he can make a big score. He provides another bowling option, and with him and Clarke making up the spin, they could afford to play Starc as well.

I think Watson will be back for the second or third tests, but I wouldn't expect to see him bowling too much, he will probably be in as a specialist batter.

Cookie311993

I wouldn't mind seeing Quiney bat down the order.

IMO Ponting or Clarke should bat 3 or even Hussey. What our top order has been lacking over the past few series is experience
Cowan
Warner
Ponting/Clarke
Ponting/Clarke
Quiney
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Pattinson
Starc
Hilfenhaus

Lyon 12th man

But as there are no real spinners in the side. Lyon will replace Starc. I want Starc in there

nrich102

I don't think they will do this but...

Warner
Cowan
Clarke
Quiney
Ponting
Hussey
Wade
Siddle
Starc
Pattinson
Hilfenhaus

Lyon as 12th

Didn't know Watson was definately out :(

Only positive I can draw from this is hoping that Cowan and Warner form some Hayden and Langer type bond and score hundred partnerships till he is back!

This is because I personally want Shane Watson batting at 7 and facing the 2nd new ball and bowling more.

That won't happen as Watson stated he wants to bat up the top

Watson must bowl to assure place | Clarke, Arthur want allrounder more than batting
