Also Bird with 25 wickets at an average of 19.76 (Don't know if that includes his latest against WA 6/25 and is currently on 1/16. Would probably not be counted yet as the match is yet to finish)

Not sure about Hastings...

But what I see in Putland is inconsistency. Too many 0fer and 1fertoomanyruns imo.

I don't like any of the "all-rounders", bring in Stark, where's Dougy? to many good bowlers and not the batting talant to bring an all rounder, not going to list all the good bowlers but they out weigh the batsman. Last chance for Ponting! Sorry champ, but we can't have you costing us a win!

Yeah I agree, not saying he should be called up but to get 12 in a game is some effort

Great death bowler in 20/20 and Ryobi Cup games too, he bowled the last over in the Ryobi Cup final and got 1/4 which won the game for SA

But Jackson Bird or even Ben Cutting are better than Hastings

Cicjose

Putland was the next big thing when he was 18 and has done little since

Starc and Cutting should both come in if we are down 2 bowlers

flowering boring South Africans :P still don't think they realise that they did not win the game. Definitely don't look like the 'no.1 side in the world'.
I hope you weren't serious there.
unfortunately sarcasm does not really show through the internet. ;)

However I stand by my point that S.Africa dont really look like the best team in the world. Been outplayed by Australia both tests...

Everyone is really overlooking the loss of Kallis... yes he batted but losing him as a bowler was a huge loss... He was 2/19 and their best bowler pre-injury. Could've been an Aussie LOSS if Kallis remained fit...

Though if Kallis was injured and Pattinson fit probably would've been an Aussie win...

But 1st test - they were 1 entire player short a very top notch test bat
2nd test - their best bowler for the match got injured.

Can't really say "they don't look like the best" when we've only seen 10/11 of a team in one match and 10.49/11 in the other
Add to that Duminy wasn't playing, Australia's parttimers did very well, Duminy very important there. And they lost Philander before the match. Yes Kleinveldt did well in the 2nd innings but Philander would'v stopped that 1st innings score alot too.

Mitchell Johnson has absolutely no point being in the Australian team.

He'll play though, cause Michael Clarke likes him and Michael Clarke is a knob

http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-sport/australia-want-ponting-for-ashes-20121127-2a5gz.html

Australian coach Mickey Arthur says selectors are unanimous in not wanting Ricky Ponting phased out before next year's Ashes but warns there's mounting pressure on him from beneath.

Arthur couldn't deny that the third Test against South Africa in Perth could be pivotal in the future of Australia's highest-ever run scorer, with Phil Hughes, Usman Khawaja and even Rob Quiney still in the picture.

Ponting has had three successive failures to start the series against South Africa, and in the second Test in Adelaide was bowled twice in a match for only the second time in his career.

The Tasmanian turns 38 next month but unfortunately that same number is the former captain's Test batting average for the past three years.

Mailman the 2nd

38 run average is not really that bad. Especially given he was in really bad form 2 years ago

Why isn't Starcy talked about as a chance? Thought he would've got a go!
