FREMANTLE has freed up enormous space in its salary cap to make a big play in the 2013 free agency period, with Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin a potential target.

As Freo's premiership window opens under coach Ross Lyon, it's estimated the club could be in a position to offer the West Australian-born forward, or another big name free agent, a front-ended deal worth as much as $1.5 million in season one.

Capper

wow massive news, will he go home??

will depend how the Hawks go in 2013 i reckon, if he feels they are on the decline i think he might.

Its a bucket load of cash, the lure of home, youd have to think about wouldnt you. :o

1.5 mil a year... I doubt there would be a player in the leauge who wouldn't take that...

I mean, club loyalties are great.... but not 7.5 million great :P

I would be very happy for the club to secure Buddy

the flying hawk

from a hawks suporters view i don't believe he will to loyal to the club but i just can't stop thinking that he will go :(

Mailman the 2nd

If it comes to the free agency and he has no contract i think he's as good as gone.

He'll probably sign on before that though

I really doubt that Buddy will go, unless he wants to be closer to Sharrod?

haha you were the first one i thought of valk as soon as i read the thread, knew youd love that who wouldnt love Buddy in their team. As zip said hard to refuse that kind of coin.

I think this should be the big news story of 2013, week in, week out, the basis for talk-back radio discussion pre and post every Hawthorn game.

If he has a bad week blame negotiations, if he has a good week then he's enjoying the remaining time he has left with the Hawks. If he buys a newspaper he is selling his house, if he twangs his hamstring it's something that wouldn't happen under the warm rays of WA. Jeff Kennett should also be free to state his view and Ross can deny all year with a big smile on his face.

In summary any distraction to Hawthorn cause would be most welcome.

In all fairness this topic has been discussed in Freo circles for a few weeks now.
