I mean, I know/have spoken to a few people who have gone on gap years or deferred and not gone back which is always a danger. I honestly thought it was all bullshower until I actually met people who didn't.

But yeah, depends on your character I guess. Some people are committed to actually studying hard and completing a degree even if they do defer or whatever, others are more every day as it comes types who suddenly decide to do so and make up their mind depending on how it goes.

I know I wanted a gap year, but my mother wouldn't have a bar of it (not that I had any job or travel plans), kinda glad I went into Uni. Done at the end of next semester and then I'll be free to do whatever.

Got my report card back today. Mostly pretty good, Just got a C for English which is retarded (teacher is the hardest marker in the school). Somehow managed to get a B for science despite getting a D for effort :P

I think your teacher was being lenient

Well flower. Is it a valid excuse that I'm typing on my phone?

frankly, if you're not going to go back after a gap year, you probably wouldn't have been able to cut it at uni anyway.

I potentially wouldn't advise it for science/ engineering, where your maths/ physics/ chem components build directly on your highschool and it can be a pain to get back into all that (I had a bit of trouble personally). Other than that, I'd recommend it.

I know lads, got over 80 so am reasonably happy, should get into the course I want to and defer for 2017.

Will be keen to get my offers mid Jan though

Good to hear mate  :)

Why defer though?

why not?

gap years are great- whether your travelling or working :p

If you live a pain in the ass commute to uni though I'd definitely recommend full time work... if you do a year of full time work you're eligible for independent rate of centrelink, which makes it a flower tonne easier to leave home (especially if you're rural or something/ not from a particularly well off family).

Fair enough  :P Definitely wasn't judging or anything, was just curious

Personally, I always figured I'd get my schooling done as soon as possible, then get a job for a couple years and then maybe take 6 months off and go travelling when I've got money and am a little bit older/more mature

Yeah, this pretty much became my mindset.

I'm currently looking for a job now so when I finish Uni mid year I have something to fall back on immediately and I'm not sitting around just refreshing the forum all day like I normally am.  :P

Still no luck on the job front? Unlucky man  :-\

I still haven't put together my CV yet, but i'll have to start looking for a job soon

Admittedly I've been a bit passive in my pursuit of a job in the past couple of weeks or so, my previous experience trying to get a job this close to Christmas hasn't ended well in two previous attempts (2013 and 2014) so I'm kinda building to get off my arse after Christmas and do something.

People seem to be debating this, but my experiences and research tell me it's considerably harder for someone who basically 21, has basically no experience, limited skills and no qualifications to get a job. Though that's partially my fault in looking at the wrong type of jobs. I'll probably have to start looking at more age appropriate stuff.

I gotta get a professional to look over my resume before I start sending it. This guy I met at my high school's AGM gave me his business card and told me to email it to him but I can't find it now. :|

Hey guys, I am going into year 12 next year and I was wondering if there are any subjects that you guys don't recommend. I know that this is all just peoples opinions but I really have no idea of what subjects I want to do.

I need to choose 5 out of the 6:

English (compulsory)
General Maths
Legal Studies
Physical Education
Psychology
Business Man

I think I am going to drop one of maths and legal studies. I enjoy legal studies more but I am better at maths. I need a reasonably high atar (78) to get into the criminology course I want to do and was wondering what you guys would do.

TIA

If you enjoy legal studies more, then i'd do that

You might be better at maths, but realistically, it's still going to be difficult to score well in it considering all the spesh/methods kids also doing further maths, so legal would be a better option imo

obviously make sure you are fulfilling the course's prerequisites as well

I have an idea that has worked for others.

Get as much done as you can before Xmas, get the rest done by early Jan. Then relax bigtime.
Keep going while you are still in the mode. No pressure before starting 1st semester next year.
