Everybody enjoys a Bachelor of Arts.  8)
Criminology + Psychology had like 5:1 ratios for girls to guys (sometimes even more) ;).

Heading into Year 10 next year, so the VCE journey begins.
At the school I attend, all students are to study one VCE subject.
However, in a new initiative for this year, the school has approached a "capable & talented" bunch of students whom it believes can handle two VCE subjects for next year (8 Units), leaving Year 12 to only 4 units, and the rest of the time studying at a nearby University, which supposedly guarantees entry for the future.
The way I see it, that would make next year the hardest year of my High School Life, but theoretically sets me up nicely for the future, which would be nice.
However, I am not sure that I can mentally handle the stress next year, and by Year 12, I would have had 2 further years to mature, and would probably score better, but have handed back the University aspect which apparently also includes a 40 score by default.
As it stands, I have a very, very vague gauge on what career I wish to pursue in the future, but have ruled out more things than I have made an option.
Choosing one VCE subject for next year was hard enough, let alone two.
There are many VCE subjects I wish to do, but feel that I could not handle picking up next year, but am keen on for the year after (eg. Math Methods)

General Thoughts and Advice much appreciated!
Not really sure what I'm asking for here, especially at this hour, but any tips would certainly be handy.

Most unit 1 and 2 subjects are pretty easy, so I wouldn't worry about next year. Units 3 and 4 is where it can get tough, but so much easier if only 1-2 subjects to focus on.
Would only do Methods a year early if you're strong in maths. Units 3/4 can be a dog haha.

If there's a couple of subjects you're keen on doing now, definitely go for it. The extra work shouldn't be that bad (I literally didn't do any study for any unit 1/2 subjects, let alone year 10 subjects).

Good luck!

Got 13.5/19 for a mid semester Maths test. Worth 15% overall. Not the best but I will take it, at least I passed :)

Doing in-text referencing for the first time in like two years. :P

Usually I just don't bother because I'm too lazy and hate referencing because of how tedious it can be, but I figured that since this is for my third year subject and major, I should probably put effort in.

This is going surprisingly well.  8)

My internet has been incredibly slow and I honestly reckon that if it was it's usual speed I'd be done by now but this is probably gonna drag on until the evening.   :(

Hellopplz

Poor poor Nige, but in-text isn't too bad just annoying :P.

Could be alot worse, just got to pick it up for other stuff to make up for it. I've gotten 12/20 for 20% lab reports before, meh efforts but can just pay more attention to other things to try and lift the grades if needed.

As for the VCE stuff, as GoLions said Units 1&2 are pretty relaxed compared to 3&4. Depending on what interests you, two can be manageable. I had some friends in accelerated class that did like 3 Unit 1&2 in Year 10, they just focused on them more than the other classes (which don't count if you just pass). Just got to be organised with your time and not slack off and you'll be fine. Year 11 isn't too bad either as Units 1&2 are just to prep you for Year 12, where the grades in 3&4 units count towards ATAR (whereas year 11 subjects don't).

So if you look like it there, you'll be more stressed the year after when the results actually effect your ATAR, but that's if you aren't prepared/organised. 4 Units in year 12 certainly is a help to pay more attention, or to allow you to try a 5th subject if you want to (option some people in accelerated class got). Agree with GoLions, if you're not too strong in Maths, save Methods for after Year 10 as it's a pain at times. Many subjects in VCe, but if you have a pathway you like, follow that with some subjects.

But don't be afraid to try something different! Never know what you may like! I did Psychology, Chemistry, Physics, Methods, English and Economics. Science heavy but I loved Economics and ended up following that (and Psychology) into high school. So go for some things that you need to get into a course you'd like, but can also try something different if you're drawn to it.

You're in Year 10 next year, don't have to stress too much. It'll work out with time so just chill while you still can :)

Nige

Just submitted it. Fingers crossed it's all good.

You mentioned methods, not sure if you have something similar at your school but you might want to speak to your teachers about 'shadowing' the course

Basically I did 1/2 in year 10, 3/4 in year 11 (not actually enrolled in 3/4 methods though), and am now doing 3/4 for real in year 12

Has worked out really well so far with me doing not much work for good marks, also really helps you get a good understanding of the course and when it comes to year 12 you can get started on practice exams early

You know the big problem with maths subjects? They don't have many assessment tasks. All of my four subjects have 70% weighting on the final exam! :( I will be happy with a credit for this subject though, it's pretyt difficult.

So for this standard Maths subject (Maths IB), 70% final exam, 15% mid-semester test, 10% for weekly computer assignments (these are really easy), and 5% overall for fortnightly hand-in questions.

Yeah you might also want to check out if your school runs a similar to program to the one they've got me on. It's called "failing"

Basically you attend pretty much all the 1/2 classes in year 11, take none if it in, repeat for 3/4 in year 12 and on SACs just write down all the numbers you know and hope you get a few marks

Methods is a dog  :P But if you're a switched on kid like you seem to be fanTCfool then doing accelerated subjects will definitely help ease the work load in year 12. I've never heard of doing 2 accelerated subjects but if you think you're up to it it would have big benefits down the road
