So year 11/12 subject selection day today. I had a list of 8 subjects that I'd be cool with doing, and because of how the timetables work I can only do 5 of those 8 and I have to find another subject to do. Simply retarded.

if you really, really want to do one of the remaining three subjects, you could do it by distance ed? You have to be more on the ball for it/ a bit more self directed learning, but it'd actually be really good prep for uni

Ziplock

or, at least you can in NSW, I'm sure they're equivs in the other states though

nrich102

yeah, you can.

So I wanted to do Music, Maths B, Economics, Modern History, English and then one of Maths C, Drama or Ancient history as the 6th subject.

Not really surprised you can't do 6 of them tbh

Very broad range of topics

No way you can do one of those subjects as a 3/4?

What do you mean by 3/4?

Hellopplz

Ah so in Victoria, in Year 11 you do units 1 and 2 of a subject, then in Year 12 you do 3 and 4 for them.

But yeah, that's pretty unlucky that you can't do 6 of them. My school use to run several classes for the popular stuff (e.g. Maths, English) so it was usually pretty flexible and easy enough to grab everything you wanted.

Could see if there is a chance to shuffle stuff around to get into the classes, and even if you miss one here and there just say you can try to catch up by yourself (as Zippy said, good prep for uni). Doubt they'd go for it, but hope there are nice teachers around willing to help you out.

Cheers HP. Most people chose their subjects in the 30 minute interview but I was able to take it home cause I didn't know what subjects I wanted to do. Going to talk the the deputy tomorrow, hopefully I can work something out.

Hellopplz

That should help out! :)

We were given a booklet with all the subjects available, and allowed a few weeks to decide what we want to do. Then think after they got selections in, THEN they did the timetabling. Not sure why they would have it already timetabled now prior to knowing who wants in :o.

That sounds like a great class, what's it for Nige? :o

And I use to snack all the time in my 2 hour lectures or when I had a string of them together (and actually went to them). It feels good, but try not to bring crunchy foods :P.

when I got to honors I just went full on and ate a sandwich in an exam.

Hahahahaha that's something I wanna do Holz, that's gold

yeah i thought been here 4 years why not.

Had an up and go, a sandwich and a nut bar.

Jukes

So this online quiz that's worth 20% of the unit opens tomorrow.

Unit plan says "Textbooks or notes are not allowed."

Gee that's really enforceable, I'm definitely not going to use any notes

They're wonderful. Its almost like the uni is saying "hey man, we know you work hard. Here, have a free 20%."

just too bad I didn't even look at any content for the unit for the first 5 weeks :P

For a different unit, the unit plan says "where the assignment is submitted not more than 5 working days late, the penalty shall, for each working day that it is late, be 5% of the maximum assessment available for the assignment;"

The assignment is due at 5pm on Friday; could I submit it Sunday night and still be allowed full marks because it isn't a working day late?

Could definitely argue that successfully imo haha

Nige

These two hour breaks on Friday are gonna be heaps fun now that I have to rely on this stupid tablet instead of my laptop. It's pretty difficult trying to get any work done on it compared to my laptop as well, so it means two hours of being less productive than I would normally be during a break.

At least the tablet battery is solid and doesn't need charging to survive my six hours here.
