Oh wow that is crazy Huggy. SO CLOSE and can't get better now haha. Still awesome effort, damn good scores if that was the lowest :P. My GF had a perfect 4.0 GPA until last sem, got results and her first 79. She got it rechecked and they marked her results with somebody else's in sem results... She ended up getting 95 for the unit. That's a 16 point difference which is insane to mess up!

GPA is a retarded system. WAM is so much better.
Yeah, it's all in the WAM 8). Mine has been declining since 2nd year though :(.

haha, mine's been slowly going up each year :P

that being said, it's really average :P

my WAM's like 71 and I think my GPAs like low 2s (out of 4, not 7 obvs).

if I get full marks in my subjects this sem my WAM will only go up to like 73 and a bit :P

Hellopplz

Yeah mine is pretty average at 72. Use to be like 77 in 2nd year but some bad subjects set me back. I don't compare myself to the missus who has a WAM in the 90s... I like to think Engineering/Science is easier than Economics/Arts which explains the difference ;D.

Maybe I should have got it remarked too...

On top of that, my Eng/Sci degree (which is completely separate) has a WAM of 79.7ish... Exchange units don't count so that's where it'll end when I get my degree. Ouch.

Hellopplz

Pwoah, that is just sooooo close. 0.3 from 80 WAM, that'd be annoying haha. But hey, if you have a job at the end of it, should work out then ;). Such a studious student Huggy, wish I had a WAM up there like you :'(.

She didn't even ask to get remarked, just wanted to know her exam mark. Then the unit coordinator realised they used somebody else's in-semester results to calculate her final grade. Surely they would be more careful as that made a huge difference!

How does GPA and WAM work?

Different unis have different systems.

Monash works like this...

WAM = weighted average mark. Take all of your grades and average them BUT weight the level one (first year) units as only 0.5 units.

So, if I scored 80 in a level one unit and then 70, 70, 90 in three other units (not level one), my WAM would be (80*0.5+70+70+90)/(0.5+1+1+1) = 270/3.5 = 77.1

GPA = grade point average. This is just an average of your grades (with no weighting afaik) where your grades are scored out of 4. You get 0 points for a fail, 1 for a pass (50-59), 2 for a credit (60-69), 3 for distinction (70-79) and 4 for high distinction (80+). So, in the example above, your GPA is (4+3+3+4)/4 = 3.5

like some unis do it slightly differently... some use a GPA out of 7, others weight all years (so first year < second year < third year)

Back to Uni today.

Got one classs from 2-5pm (2 hour lecture, 1 hour tute - basically a 3 hour workshop).

It was supposed to be more Drama related, but now it's been changed and they've added some like history bullshower to which is annoying. So now the unit is Ancient Greek History & Drama, which isn't too bad, because Greek comedy (which we cover as part of the unit) does interest me. It's all the historical shower that is going to kill me.

Have actually gone to my two lectures this week, and read through the unit plans - that's pretty impressive imo

My sport journalism class actually has a 75% attendance requirement, so gotta go to them :'(

Nige

Left home at 12:30pm to get to my 2pm class in time.

Arrived here 5 mins late when normally I'd be here like (at least) 15 mins early.  ::)
