what do people think of having all of their classes online? La Trobe was estimating that the majority of their subjects will gradually move to online. personally I would rather face to face with lecturers.
Online lectures would be alright, tutes on the other hand no.

Yeah pretty much. For the majority of my lectures I learn just as much by going through the slides online, whereas with tutes if you're not there then it's really hard to learn the stuff they cover in it. Same with labs.

By the way, just curious if you're planning on doing this at Monash Uni (Clayton)? :P
Melbourne's been the main university I've looked at so far  :P
Not a bad place indeed ;).

As for the online stuff, lectures are fine online. Tutes/Labs like others said are better in person. Had online Labs last semester, they were alright to get people participating, but harder to actually talk to your tutor if you had problems :(.

most lectures are recorded anyway, where you can watch them on LMS, really good that way

it's good if you have a 9am class and cbf waking up at 6:30 to go! but yeah lecture slides tell you enough with the references at the end!

Nige

As far as I know, ACU doesn't record lectures.

Competitive probably means in job prospects though. If you were a girl Big Mac, and get good grades and have a nice resume, companies would be all over you most of the time. How my friend is working with the Defence force this holidays :P.

For the double bit, could do subjects like that but preferably mix 1-2 Com units with Eng units. Com tend to be less in-semester assignments and stuff due compared to Eng so it's a tad more relaxing in that sense. But can be easy to let them slide, which you shouldn't. But if you complete one side of the degree first before the other, you don't get it until both are done anyway. Mainly because in a double degree doing less units altogether (for one side of the degree) than in a single degree, so technically wouldn't finish a full one ;). So pretty much complete both together to get it!

And plenty in Commerce ;). Think most of the ladies go into Finance/Accounting though, not too many in Economics :(.

By the way, just curious if you're planning on doing this at Monash Uni (Clayton)? :P

I'm pretty sure you're at Clayton aren't you? I'm about to pick a major for Commerce, doing Com/Law, and I'm definitely leaning towards Economics at this stage, what are your thoughts on it as a major?

Hellopplz

Yep, Doing Economics/Arts at Clayton. I like Economics as a major! Many different fields to study in Economics, but if you want a job as an Economist been told by many (lecturers as well as Holz) that should do some Econometrics units! Given the units on offer there is a range of stuff to do, but depends if you're drawn into it as it's not for everybody. I enjoy it alot as you can actually use Economics in life, so makes it even more interesting to me.

Lucky for the Commerce degree, can try a bit of everything first/second year and see what you like before actually deciding.

That's it, the world is becoming more technical and complex. In my opinion you can't survive with just good theory anymore you need technical experience in either maths or computers or both.

That's why I plan to go back and major in mathematics and computer science to actually get a job as an economist.

Hellopplz

I've had some friends who've tried Computer Science, only to drop out after a year cause wasn't for them. If you don't enjoy it, will find it a tough time getting through it ;).

AaronKirk

I did a Bachelor of Business at QUT.

Accounting as first major and Economics second major

Fair to say Accounting and Economics are polar opposites but its was the same as HP said about Monash, you do all the core subjects in the first year to get a grasp of everything before making a choice of what you wanted to focus on.

In relation to online lectures. All the lectures at QUT except for Taxation Law that I did were recorded and online within 24 hours of the lecture. So by my 4th year (last year) I didn't attend many lectures at all, went to all the tutes -  you learned more in the tutes.

only some of lecture rooms have video recording options, but most rooms are old as shower! so they only smell funky and are 92 degrees in summer :p

I don't enjoy it or mathematics for that matter, I enjoy what they can do though. Necessary Evils.
