Out of interest, has anyone on here done or is doing IB?
My school has it and I know a little bit about it. As I have no plans on studying overseas I stuck to the local option.

I'm not sure what's worse.

Getting a 7000 word maths report in high school or completely forgetting about it :p

Is that the International Beccalaureate thingo? I had a mate who did that. Why?
Yeah, that one.

Really I'm just wondering what it's all about and how it's different to the normal thing. Understand you have to do another language or something, rigt?

I'm not sure what the normal structure is in Queesnland, but the IB runs as follows:
- English
- Maths
- Science (Physics, Chem, Bio, Environmental Systems)
- Humanities (Geo/History)
- Language
- Arts (However the Arts subject can become a 2nd Science)

You also have some Group 4 project (No idea what this is), and an Extended essay which specialises in one of our subjects. Three of your subjects have to be done at "High level" standard.

Oh and I forgot the 50 hours of Service, 50 hours of Action, and 50 hours of Creativity you need to do :P

It's a real killer, if you're committed and willing to give up all fantasy football for two years, then go for it, rewards are there, IB scores get turned into ripping ATAR's. (y)

Also I believe it's an international program, not just a state one. So one advantage is that it is much easier to study overseas, if you wanted to  :P

PowerBug

Yeah it's fully international and shower so yeah you get recognized overseas. In the last couple of years there's been people from my school land spots England, one in Oxford and the other in Cambridge.

I think something like a 31 in IB (it's out of 45) relates to an ATAR over 90. 31 is pretty much getting B- for your subjects, or 70%, so to land a 90 ATAR with that is pretty strong.

Hellopplz

Yeah, know a few friends of friends who did IB a few years back and they landed like 99+ ATARs doing it. If you're going for high ATARs or want to study abroad as PB said, then IB may be worth the time and effort put into it!

If they don't think they can commit that time, best to stick to the normal studying, as got to be extremely dedicated to get through the IB program from the sounds of it.

My teacher wants us all to completely redo our physics exams at home.....Complete waste of time considering the score I got so i'm just considering not doing it
