UPDATE

A SECOND player of Melbourne's 2009 wooden spoon-winning team has come forward, backing up claims that Melbourne deliberately lost games in order to secure a priority pick.

The player who at this stage is unknown has admitted that Dean Bailey was under fierce pressure to lose games.

He also added that players were purposely rested or withdrawn from games, or made to play positions they would otherwise never play.

The player spoke yesterday as league investigators close in on officials at the demons "vault".

If proven, the demons will be facing severe penalties including fines and loss of their first three selections in this years draft and for the following two

technically I suppose I'm a student, since I'm at USYD studying advanced science

Hey, that's probably what I'm doing next year at Usyd!

What field and for how long have you been doing that?

Sorry for the topically irrelevant question

haha, I took a gap year so I'm only finishing up my first year now. It was pretty difficult to get back into it, so much shower falls out of your head.

First semester I was pretty broad and did maths, chem, bio and physics, but this semester I dropped physics so I'm doing an extra form of bio, chem and maths again. I kind of regret dropping physics now though- it was really easy, it's just that I had such terrible lab partners that I cracked the showers.

atm I'm leaning towards doing probs either a double major in bio/chem or just a bio major, depending on how I go :P

and wow. That's going to completely flower the club. Honestly, I dont think they'll recover...

Chopps

If resting is tanking then freo are flowered for that mass rest against Hawks when they got flogged.....Difference between tanking and experimenting Imo.

Tanking is the players wanting to lose and no competitive AFL player ever wants to lose but if the coaching staff blood new players which causes others to play in different positions then so be it. No top team seems to have done it bar freo from memory which was a mass resting just seemed well played and in the rules. No stipulation saying you can't give yourself a better chance of winning next week and I bet they still wanted to win just as much and as players believed they could

quinny88

Melbourne would have actually been better off just resting players in the game against Richmond.
The fact that they started a ruckman in the back pocket on Nathan Brown, started a number of their guns on the bench and featured alot of players at center bounces that had never played in the middle before just made it bleedingly obvious that the coaches didn't want to win

Why is it that I'm also going to be doing a bio/chem degree? :P

Pity I'm still in year 12, so I have to wait a year :(

Bios fine, easy as in some cases. molecular biology and genetics is kind of flowered though- it has both the highest drop out rate and fail rate at usyd :/

Chem is... well, it depends how hard you work at it. It's completely different from highschool lol. That's the biggest issue with a lot of uni- so much self motivated learning, it's an absolute dog if you're lazy like me and basically need to be whipped to do anything.

On topic.

If melbourne lose their draft picks for the next couple of years, what do you guys think their recruiting strategy is going to be?do we think guys like connors, who've flowered up a lot at other clubs, are going to be picked up by them?

Mailman the 2nd

Would they still be able to use the free agency to pick up delisted players?

Ziplock

yeah, since theres no advantage on that based on draft position- if they werent the afl would be dooming the dees to extinction.

Cruiseon

So much pain and degregation of the culture at the club for the likes of Jack Watts and Tom Scully!

Fevola said it was "obvious" to the players Carlton were not maximising their chances to win, which would have jeopardised a No.1 draft pick.

But Fevola said players were never given directions not to give their best.

Yup, the AFL can't have double standards on this issue. Pies will be looked at for 05 as well (though 04 and 05 the Pies were ravaged with injury).

The Tigers have been tanking for 30 years also
