It is good to see that they are really giving the trade period a red hot go. The bigger bodies they are securing will be of benefit to the younger guys in the club.

Melbourne have done a great job this trade period; Rodan certainly won't hurt, especially for the price of Pick 88.

If we get Pederson and Ray, who knows what Melbourne will do next year? Might surprise!

Windigo

Think Rodan will be a good fit for Melbourne.

Dees might just be the surprise packet of the year for sure!   :o

Mailman the 2nd

Whether the young promising players can work better with this set of veterans is yet to be seen.

However, it's definitely a step in the right direction. Don't discount Melbourne, yet :P

I think the Pederson deal might be falling apart from what I've seen, but who knows, anything could happen.

I keep hearing this.. I would like to know in what way they are going to improve much, if at all.

In: Byrnes (old and has always been a fringe player)
Dawes (one of the worst CHF's playing AFL in 2012)
Rodan (old and has dodgey knees and was delisted from PORT!)

Out: Greene (retired)
Moloney (B&F from 2011. Neeld obviously didnt like the bloke)
Rivers (Best backman other than Frawley that could also go forward)

Those outs are better players than those ins IMO. I dont know why people think Melbourne will all of a sudden be a threat. Neeld is clutching at straws because he knows things have gone up shi*t creek since he got to the club so he is trying to stock up on experienced players in the hope he keeps his job.
Melbourne could suffer long term from these sort of impulse decisions. I know all about it being a Richmond supporter.

Ziplock

IN: Viney, Pick 4.

I really think that their ins outweigh their outs- only rivers is the player lost of any worth.

Maybe so, but the outs weren't exactly up to melbourne. Green is old and Rivers decided it was time to try and fins some immediate success, and being a free agent and with no scarlett at Geelong it was an obvious choice for him. :)

You can't say that Melbourne hasn't tried during this trade period, whether it pays off or not is yet to be known, but I'm glad that melbourne has at least made some changes. Step in teh right direction. :D

Yeah I know Silky those 2 players arent Melbournes fault but why grab the sort of guys they are grabbing??

Rodan was sacked from from Port and has hardly played a decent game since 2007.
They are paying Dawes something like 500k a year... why?? He must have nearly wet himself when he got offered that
And Byrnes is just neither here nor there. He's a nothing player. Not bad but not good, he wont even be noticed

Mailman the 2nd

Green got dropped as captain was fairly useless at this point in time to be brutally honest.

Moloney got dumped from the leadership squad.

Rivers was ok, but not a huge loss.

They've got rid of 2 old players who really weren't helping the club improve at all.

Dawes is not that bad. Collingwood just made him look bad. He did pretty well to cement his magpies slot.

Viney is a big in.

Tapscott, Howe, Jones, Frawley and grimes had promising seasons

Clark got injured, but did pretty well for himself.

Its not like they're gonna rocket into the top 8, but they could get somewhere in the top 11 or so

I am with you here. Rodan has no defensive pressure and hasn't been flash at Port for a long time. In his late twenties, i guess that Melbourne hope that he can turn out to be something decent for them. I wouldn't say it's a terrible choice, but not one that i'd have on the top of my list.

He probably would've after the 2012 he had. ;D But he was part of Collingwood's prelim final side, and that shouldn't go unnoticed. The other thing that collingwood made an error with this year was playing him in the ruck (Leigh Brown-like). He's not a ruckman, he's a key forward, and if Melbourne play him at Full Forward with Mitch Clark then I tihnk he can go back to the 2011 form he showed which was good.

I haven't seen enough of Byrnes to make a detailed comment. Hopefully for Melbourne he becomes good. :)

The other problem for Melbourne, they have no trade bait. There's noone for them to get rid of to find better players out there. :\ I'd imagine the draft selections that they have they will want to use and get young kids into their side, to help long term. If a deal can be signed with Pedersen i'd say their trade period is still a win. :)

Viney is an 18 year old kid and people seem to think he will come in and be an instant premium midfielder. Not gonna happen. He will be a gun no doubt, but it takes time.

Moloney isnt of any worth? He won their b&f a year ago.. He's a better footballer than Rodan, Byrnes and Dawes.

Chris Dawes played one good season in a premiership side. It is a lot easier to look good with pendles, swan, beams, daisey putting the ball down your throat in a team that dominated.
He was played out of position for patches of games, not the whole game. He was useless forward and in the ruck.

Ziplock

and didn't green win B&F in 2010?

then he was shower for 2011. And 2012. Hence why he left.

same deal for moloney- why was he out of favour? probably because he wasn't up to scratch

or the dees were tanking... again :P

they got pederson today, that's a pretty decent win.

Yea green was old though and a good career is over.
No moloney was their best mid in the prime of his career. Enter Neeld.. He's Dropped, used as a sub its stupid.

Pedersen a decent pickup but still barely broke even considering they got rid of Gysbersts, a 21 year old #11 draft pick with a huge future

Barra17

Its obvious that Melbourne know who they want in their team, pretty much every player they have made a play for  they have got. They know who they want and will do alot to get them. Their game plan is set and it looks as though they are recruiting players to match that. Whether they are guns or not, they are all a piece to their puzzle.

I reckon it s a step in the right direction.
