Pokémarathon

Was talking to Maca on chat earlier and I mentioned that once I finished exams I was considering playing through a game from each generation of Pokémon. He said he'd do it with me if I did so I have decided to do it. Each game will either be the 3rd from their generation of a remake. Reason being the 3rd game is always a re-release and is almost always more well rounded than the first 2 of that generation. Yellow being the exception as it was made to have a game based loosely off the Animé rather than to improve R/B/G but I'll go with Yellow for consistencies sake.

The games we'll be playing:

Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, FireRed, Platinum, HeartGold, Black 2/White 2 (haven't decided.)

Participants:

Sid, Maca24, MajorLazer, Jayman, Pyronerd, Elephants, other people lost track (:().

I do own the games from the first 3 gens but I'm thinking I might emulate for the sake of convenience. The DS games I'll likely just reset and play on the (3)DS because they usually don't emulate very well.

The teams I have planned (these are the teams I'll take to E4 so most will be fully evolved):

 








 

Subject to change of course...am strongly considering dropping Rapidash atm and I'm sure there will be other stuff I want to chance between now and then.

Some of your parties in there are very close to the ones I have used Sid. Especially in Pearl and Heart Gold. Oh and btw keep Rapidash, it is a good fire pokemon and is the earliest (I think) fire type you can get in the game if you don't go with the starter.

Yeah he is the first, it's why I chose him. :)

Went for a team I could get in the early game for Platinum (mostly at least)...

I was somewhat careful about when I picked certain Pokés, like picking up Ninetales before the SpDef/SpAtk split, and Rapidash after the Physical/Special split. Still lots I'm uncertain about though. :P

I would also look at getting a Poliwrath. They have good stats and are multiple types. I would suggest getting one of them over a Tentacruel in Yellow.

I did this with a mate after year 12 exams! We played through every game and transferred them up to B/W (from sapphire/ruby upwards) where we are missing less than 50 pokemon total...

Also, how do you plan on getting raichu in yellow? Can you seriously be bothered trading it to R/B and evolving it and trading it back?

I would also look at getting a Poliwrath. They have good stats and are multiple types. I would suggest getting one of them over a Tentacruel in Yellow.

Noooooo! Tentacruel is my favourite Pokémon to use in game. :P

Thing is a special wall, fairly quick as well and STAB Poison/Water is super useful, covers his grass weakness and adds a few resistances, the only thing of worry is ground type, with his ridiculous special def stat he can pretty much wall psychic and electric attacks (apart from Zam)...Absolutely love him :P

What I could do would be bring Infernape and Poliwrath in for Empoleon and Rapidash for Platinum...Still so many decisions to make :P

Ah, this is a mistake on my part. No I won't be bothering with that...I might but I doubt it.

For the record, so far I think that B2W2 is far better than BW was. Not unlike Platinum/Emerald being so much better than their predecessors.

Supposedly the aftergame is the best it has been in a long time as well, so definitely pumped for that.

Needed a physical attacker because Absol was my only other one. If I can't be bothered I might replace him with someone...Dunno who.

EDIT: Maybe Hariyama but I use him so much. :-/ Or Slaking. Actually definitely Slaking.

Will give him a quick claw (IIRC Choice Scarf won't be available until aftergame) and hyper beam. Hit and run will be a reliable in game strategy. :)

Just saw an Umbreon in there, if you have an Eevee, wait until it learns Bite, then evolve it into Espeon. Boom, then you have Dark and Psychic type moves. DANGER ZONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
