Luke Breust

Birthday - 11/11/90
Position - Forward
Games - 41
Price - $389,100

DT Average 2011 - 64.6
DT Average 2012 - 75.5

Breust had a slow start to 2012 scoring below 60 in 4 of his first 5 games. However he continued to show improvement, booting 45 goals for the season and averaging 4.7 tackles. At times during the year he pushed further up the ground into the midfield and with Gunston seemingly cementing a forward spot plus Whitecross out until mid-year I could see Breust being used more around the ball in the forward half while still posing a threat with his goalkicking.

Interestingly he scored well against the top teams and GC/GWS but was quiet against the likes of Carlton, St.Kilda, Bulldogs etc. This suggests he still has plenty of scope for improvement. Despite having a game style more suited to SC and also being at that awkward 350k-400k price range I still think he's worth keeping an eye on over pre-season.

Predicted 2013 Average - 84.

Was just about to request someone to do Bruest :)

Really like the look of him, awkward price, but reckon that predicted average of 84 is spot on. Great write up.

I reckon he will average higher. Whitecross will be out for the majority of the season and I can see him spending more time rotating through the midfield as an outside player in his absence, but spending most of the time forward. I really like him as a player, thought he was one of our best in the grand final and has plenty of upside. I think he can average similarly to whitecross this year and so is definetly on my radar.

Spinking

Could be a really nice unique if he does hit those heights. I'm not convinced he will get there this year, and feel the price is a bit much for the risk.

Scrads

One I am definitely keep in my back pocket but honestly his selection on my team will depend mostly on what CD/VS do with their M/F DPP (i.e. who gets them).

Will be a super option for anyone who is thinking of picking him :)

Will watch him in the NAB Cup. Won't break past any of my premiums but if he performs in the cup I might get him in for Gray if I get the dough together. As Shihan said, could be a great POD if he can average close to 90.

Love breust but buddy will be the only hawk forward in my team

HAWTHORN head of coaching and development Chris Fagan -

"He had a terrific year. When you look at his statistics, he was probably one of the leading small forwards in the competition. It wasn't just what he did when he had the ball, in terms of kicking goals and creating goals, but also his pressure. He's a really good, honest person, so I'd imagine he won't get carried away with what he was able to do this year. He'll be looking to improve again, and probably that improvement will come from being able to play in the midfield a little bit more. He did a bit of that towards the end of the year, but that's a real growth area for him. He's got a good tank and good agility and speed, and a good footy brain."

Stats that matter:

Second in goals (45)
Second in goal assists (26 @ 1.1 per game)
Third in marks inside forward 50 (34 @ 1.4 per game)
Fourth in tackles (113 @ 4.7 per game)
Seventh in contested possessions (179 @ 7.5 per game)

AFL Fantasy: Expect Breust's value to rise.

Nice write up on Luke by the DT Talk boys -

Don't mind the idea of Bruest as a POD, but I'd much rather Sylvia for about 4k extra. At least with Sylvia you know he's averaged 90+ in multiple years.

Agree. Absoulutely love Bruest as a player though and if he starts of well I'll be on very quickly.

Hmm would you rather Bruest, Cloke, Higgins or Broughton though?

Bruest > Broughton > Higgins > Cloke ?

Bruest > Broughton > Higgins > Cloke ?

Broughton (90 avg) > Cloke (87 avg) > Bruest (84 avg) > Higgins (84 avg, but least amount of games) for me.
