I don't think the AFL would be very impressed if North used pick 15 on Jacobs after only offering Port pick 38(?) with all this talk about maintaining the integrity of the draft...

Roo's getting him at what was it 37 was a surprise, definitely thought he'd go before then. Gotta agree with a few though to many mummy's boys going in the draft saying i'll be happy to be picked up by anyone and when they go interstate they spend the whole time sulking about it, toughen the hell up clubs are spending a great deal of money and time on you giving you your opportunity of realising your dream and paying you a great deal more than youd get in the private sector. To soft these days toughen up.

would be a bit tough though being away from family and friends though grazz...

At my age (18) I would be more than happy to move from Adelaide to Melbourne to play footy, but I know a lot of people from Melbourne that wouldn't be happy moving from Melbourne to Adelaide... Don't ask me why, it just seems to be a general train of thought!

they should know there's a high possibility they might get drafted interstate so if your not willing to live there permanently don't play AFL

so is joining an AFL list not like they are on there on they got 40 other blokes to be best mates with along with coaching staff and whoever else i never buy the excuse of wanting to be with family it's bullshower got things like skype etc and they can visit them any time they gave a Melbourne game if it's say going from Melbourne back home i understand a bit more as they would travel outside Melbourne less but seriously some players need to stop being so much like a mummas boy

Ziplock

mate, its hard to move away from all your friends and family at 18, across the country, especially when you know there are substantial opportunities in your home state.

kilbluff1985

i'm not saying it's not hard but if they are not willing to do it don't play AFL

Ziplock

and if the afl agreed with you, then it would change its rules. Atm, there are rules in place to allow players to change team etc. should they desire- and that's in the best interest of the game, if these kids weren't playing, then we wouldn't see as high quality football as we do.

It's like if you become a miner, and you take a job out in WA because a company is willing the hire you. Then, you get a job offer with a longer contract, slightly better pay at a new mine in your home state.

Nobody would begrudge the miner for moving home. Football is these kids careers, it's the same shower.

That's just the thing i believe the rules will change sooner or later as i think it hurts interstate clubs.

How you ask i don't know perhaps each state have there own draft i know unlikely but just an idea off the top of my head.

Noz

If I was drafted and had to move interstate I'd say goodbye to my family grab my misses and get ready to start a new life.

The go home factor has been one of Brisbanes issues for a number of years.  they have a number of programmes in place to assist and still lose the odd one or 2 but the majority stay.  We have the Qld lifestyle as an attraction.
They would not be enough quality players for both Gold Coast and Brisbane to have a separate state draft so would be against that idea,
