Geelong has pulled off a blockbuster trade, securing brilliant teenager Josh Caddy from the Gold Coast Suns.

Caddy was the seventh pick in the 2010 national draft, but he had flagged a desire to return to his home state of Victoria. With a number club chasing his services, the two clubs closed the deal.

The Cats will send its compensation pick (received for losing Gary Ablett) to Gold Coast, and the clubs will ultimately exchange a number of other draft picks that are still to be finalised. The paper work will not be lodged with the AFL until later in the trade period, however Caddy will be lining up for the Cats in 2013.

Caddy has played 24 games in his two seasons with the Suns. He was limited to just two games in his first season, but rebounded this year to every game and averaged 15 disposals per match. He earned a rising star nomination in round 16.

The deal is the biggest trade since the Cats engineered the move of Brad Ottens to Simonds Stadium in 2004. That swap saw Brent Moloney move to Melbourne and the Cats first round draft pick go to Richmond.

Caddy was originally drafted after captaining the Northern Knights. He represented Vic Metro at the under 18 national championships, where he averaged 25 possessions, 11 contested possessions and seven clearances per game. Caddy was selected in the under 18’s All Australian squad at the conclusion of the championships.

Cicjose

sounds like they want to win another flag

i reckon Chapman Bartel and Stevie J all have to be permanent forwards to fit him in

Scrads

So this trade brings us to this equation.......

Ablett = Smedts + Caddy

Yay or nay ? ;)

Ziplock

in the long run... probably yay.

but honestly, could have challenged for the premiership this year if you'd still had ablett.

So, thats a minimum of 3 players who will front up in round 1 next season who didn't play last season. Varco, Menzel (if fit) and Caddy. Varco played for about 2 seconds if memory serves me. If all these players are fit and can stay injury free, we'll definately be a better team.

Then maybe add Hmac into the equation

Are we still going for Hmac and Rivers? They're both quality players. Would they zero in on one or try to get both?

Last I heard Hmac was your closest bet, haven't heard too much on Rivers lately
