It's official

I am a little disappointed personally, I would have preferred to keep Pick 3 and 13. Mainly because as a Melbourne supporter, I am sick of waiting. Hogan won't even play until 2014, and even then he may not make an instant impact, given he is a KPP. But at least his body is ready; 195cm and 97.4 kg.

As for Dominic Barry, is this a repeat of Liam Jurrah?

Obviously, Barry is not as indigenous as Jurrah, but just with bad past experiences, I fear that he will need to go home like many indigenous players do, and miss pre-seasons and/or the real season.

I suppose Pick 20 isn't a bad downgrade for 13.

But although I personally dont like this move, it is certainly not a bad one.

Thoughts?

A 17 year old that's 195cm and 97.4kg.

Seriously, he's already bigger than Jack Watts.

Purple 77

Oh Jack Watts, you were made for criticism lol

I don't know a whole lot about Hogan, but surely that build means he could have an instant impact? Patton has done some stuff..... I'd imagine he'd be similar to him

So onstead of using picks 3-4 on a Toumpas/Grundy, and 4 on Stringer, 13 maybe on Membrey, they give up 3 and 13 on a 17 yr old :o Seriously this fooball club needs a kick in the backside!

it sounds like a bad deal on paper, but im sure there is more to it. GWS were probably threatening to bid on viney, im sure there is a spoken agreement they wont bid on him now.

^ probably something like that.

Although I dont agree with it, I dont see how it is a bad deal?

Using your example, lets say we draft Toumpas with pick 4

Meaning we traded out Stringer and Membrey to the Giants correct?

We got Hogan, who is no ordinary 17 year old, IMO is better (not put together) than either of those two i.e. is better value to melb.

So lets say Hogan is equal to or greater than Stringer

I have no idea who could be pick 20......... but surely it would be a good player in this draft? Couple that with Dom Barry.... would you say that is equal to or greater than Membrey? Two players is less than Membrey? I am confused  ???

And the kick in the backside happened at round 19 last year; since then we are fixing this club, and making the right moves, not the wrong ones.

Putting this way, is it so bad? If anything I think we won in this trade...... and don't need this 'kick in the backside'

Ziplock

martin is supposed to be as good as whitfield already, despite being a year younger, so you'd think hogan wouldn't be far behind..

tbagrocks

Yeah I guess pick 20 will get a good player and this Barry could be alright to so not a bad trade! Just seems a little strange s all

But the bidding occurred yesterday before this deal had been made...

Ziplock

that might have been the deal

'we won't bid on viney if you trade us X for Y'
'what's to stop us trading x for y and you bidding on viney anyway?'
'fine, you promise to trade us x for y and we won't bid on him'

looks like they kept up their deal :P

cant get much worse

Lol, couldn't help but laugh at that one  ;D

valkorum

Look at it from a whole perspective.

They get Hogan - best KPP in the country and can start training him a year earlier
Viney at a pick in 2nd round
Still get pick #4 and now pick #20
