Geelong goalsneak Shannon Byrnes joins Demons

Byrnes played 108 games for the Cats after making his debut in 2004. He kicked 100 goals.

But he managed just four this season as his spot in the team was taken by youngsters such as Steve Motlop and Jordan Murdoch.

Byrnes played in Geelong's 2007 and 2009 premiership teams.

The 28-year-old has met Melbourne officials and has agreed to a two-year deal.

He is set to add bite to an inexperienced Demons attack.

As an unrestricted free agent, Byrnes can move to the club of his choice.

The Cats, meanwhile, are chasing Melbourne defender Jared Rivers.

Rivers is also an unrestricted free agent but Geelong may not make a call on him until after the dust settles on a potential trade for Gold Coast young gun Josh Caddy.

Beat me to it in here mate, I made a thread in Players and Trades though ;D

I reckon its a great move on both sides. Some much needed experience and maturity in the Demons forward line while Geelong get some compensation instead of just delisting him!

Win-Win.

YAY! Byrnes should be good for the Dees, I see him as a developed Sam Blease, so hopefully he can mentor him and many others

Experience is just what we need

Burnes will be a graet addition to the team what they needed a outside mid that can run and carry and use the ball well :)

Byrnes definitely will be of value to the Demons, the experience will be handy.

Also very good for our fantasy sides ;)
