St Kilda Football Club has today announced the appointment of Tony Micale as an Assistant Coach to the Saint’s coaching panel in 2013.

Micale will join the Saints from Western Australia in a dual role as an Assistant to Dean Laidley as Midfield Coach, together with being appointed as the new Saints Player Academy Manager.

Appointed coach of East Fremantle in the WAFL from 1995-1998, Micale coached the team to a Grand Final in 1997 and then achieved premiership success in 1998.

The following year Micale joined South Fremantle, which is aligned with the Fremantle Dockers, and took the Club to the WAFL Grand Final.

In 2000, he was recruited by East Perth, the Club aligned with the West Coast Eagles, where he took the team to three consecutive premierships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Micale was appointed as an Assistant Coach with the West Coast Eagles in 2003. He remained in that position until 2008 and was involved in the Club's 2006 AFL Premiership campaign.

Micale was also honoured with the AFL Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2007.

St Kilda Football Club Senior Coach Scott Watters said, “This is a key appointment for the Saints. Adding someone with Tony’s knowledge and experience to the coaching panel next season provides great balance to our assistant coaching team.”

He certainly has the experience and credentials. From what i have seen and heard here in the WAFL, he is a very very hard coach, but a successful one.
