who would be the 4 vets for the Pies??

Maxwell??
Jolly??
Johnson??
Didak??
Kraks is around that age as well

You have to have played for Collingwood for 10 years, so no Jolly/Krak

Swan just about there, Johnson (if he doesn't retire), Didak, Maxwell and Swan.
ok thanks Oss
so its only the 10yrs and age doesn't come into it?
that makes sense as it was Swannies 10th year this year.

Age wouldnt come into it as if you want to play for one club for 10 years then you would have started playing seniors at about 18-20 you would hit your 10 years at about 28+

I thought the new veteran rules was over 30 - games played and time at club didnt make a difference.  If this was the case I think Freo got screwed in back-ending Pav and Sandi contracts a couple years back using old rules.  Old rules used to be half the salary of 2 x players over 30 and 10 years service.

So we get picks 17 and 18 for Tippett? That's crap!

Veteran Players

Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list any number of what are called Veteran Player’s.
•In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club.
•From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification.

Which means Swan doesn't qualify. Hmmm. Only Johnson, Didak and Maxwell do. (Jolly, Krakouer don't)

Ok, how about pick 16 from Freo for Tippett.

Pretty sure he said he doesn't want to play in Perth, but it would probably work haha

The rules to the veterans list have been changed.

A veteran is someone who has been at the club for 10 seasons. Swan qualifies.

The rule is that you can pay each veteran $100,000 outside of the salary cap.

Geelong basically have an extra $800,000 in their cap over teams like Carlton who have zero veterans. The Cats have Paul Chapman, Joel Corey, Corey Enright, Jimmy Bartel, Steve Johnson, James Kelly, Andrew Mackie and Josh Hunt who are all classed as veterans under the new rules. It's how they could afford to chase Boak.

Actually - I just checked Ossie and that is not correct

The rule you said is the old rule (still current this year) and you can still have as many as you like, its just that the amount per player gets less the more veterans you have

1 Veteran - 50% of salary outside of salary cap
2 Veterans - 50% of all salaries outside of salary cap
3 Veterans - 33% of all salaries outside of salary cap
4 Veterans - 25% of all salaries outside of salary cap
etc etc

For every veteran you nominated you then had that many less available spots on the rookie list.

New Rule (starts next season):
The player only needs to have played 10 years for a club (doesnt need to be 30) and you can have as many as you like.  $100k of salary per player is outside of salary cap
