Mitch Robinson (born 7 June 1989) is an Australian rules footballer with the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Robinson is a midfielder/half-forward who played junior football in Tasmania. In 2008, as an eighteen-year-old, he played eleven games for the Tasmanian Devils Football Club in the Victorian Football League, as well as two games for the Lauderdale Football Club seniors in the Southern Football League, and one game for the Tassie Mariners in the TAC Cup. He featured prominently at the AFL Under-18s Championship, winning the award as the Hunter-Harrison Medal as the best player in Division Two of the competition. He was drafted by the Carlton Football Club with its 3rd round selection (No. 40 overall) in the 2008 AFL National Draft, and made his debut in Round 1, 2009 against Richmond at the M.C.G., scoring three goals.

Robinson played sporadically in the AFL in his first two seasons, playing 26 of 46 possible games for Carlton and spending the rest of the time with VFL-affiliate Northern Bullants. His breakthrough came in the 2011 season, when he won a regular place in the team, and became a key ball-winner in the midfield; at midseason, Herald Sun commentator Mark Robinson heralded him as the league's most improved player, and he went on to finish seventh in the John Nicholls Medal count for the season, and was selected to represent Australia in the 2011 International Rules Series.

Robinson quickly became popular with Carlton fans for his incredible hardness at the ball â€" often in apparent disregard for his own safety, to the point where his style is frequently described as "kamikaze"

2011: After a strong finish to 2010, had his best season in 2011, as reflected by his seventh placing in the best and fairest award. Playing mainly in the midfield, he inspired his team mates with his physical presence at the contest. Capped a fine year with selection in the International Rules squad against Ireland.

2012: 9 tons, high of 146, only 4 scores under 70 one 70, and a low of 39 injury affected. A very reliable and solid season marred only by injury which kept him out for a few.

Premium Player Rating (MID/FWD) - 8.2/10 A low rating for Robbo, it would and should be higher, if not for his likelihood of being injured. He is a hard in and under attacker of the Ball and whoever possesses it or attempts to possess it ahead of him. He became premium in 2011 and elite in 2012. His consistency in scoring over the 2012 season makes him a top notch option for your FWD line. If made Mid only he like many others would slip down the pecking order and be almost unelectable for your midfield. Expect him to consolidate and build on his 2012 form consistency and scoring and be better again in 2013. Expect a touch over 100 average, more if he plays most of his time in the middle, but not much more either way.

Liked his year, i think the body and the injury slowed him up a bit towards the end of the year. He looked pretty sore out there at times late in the season no surprise when you see how he goes about it. Tough as nails and hard at it. Definate candidate to make my side again next year.

The 2009 first-round draft pick made his AFL debut in round 10 against Hawthorn and averaged 13 disposals in his six games, including a career-best 18 disposals against Essendon in round 21 (2011). A raking left-footer, he doesn’t seem overawed on the big stage and looks to have untapped talent. Signed a contract extension in November (2011) and will benefit with extra bulk on his 186cm frame.

Mid Priced Player Rating (DEF) - 7.7/10 I jumped on this kid last season in both DT and SC and he went and got injured and out for half the season. Regardless of that it would have been a mistake anyway, a year too soon. But not now. At his price (yet to be confirmed but expected to be modest), he could be one of the best picks for 2013. WHY? you ask, he didn't do much last season. Well actually he showed a lot 4 games over 75 including a ton, playing alongside Hargrave and Gilbee at times both last season, well guess what? BOTH have retired. This kid with another full preseason under his belt, taken at pick #15 overall in 2009 was always going to take over eventually as the Bulldogs playmaker out of defence, at this point there should still be plenty of setting up and coming out of defense for a rebuilding Bulldogs unit and Howard should see plenty of the pill in 2013. If he can step up as the Doggies now desperately need him to he will be the man and a potential premium Back.

Does this lad's ranking change with the departure of Lake?

No he is a rebound running defender, he cannot be given a role on a key fwd, he isn't big enough or strong enough and never will be.

He is there to rebound and use the ball out of defence, not as a stopper or a key position player.

Lake going will weaken the doggeis backline and have some effect but not to this guys role.

Hargrave and gilbee were more rebounding playmaking defenders however so thier departure does effect this guy, possitively.

Dogs will need to find a strong tall to replace Lake. not someone like Howard.
