Love your work guys.

If you have time, I'd be interested in what you think of Jasper Pittard

Jasper Pittard
#29   Port Adelaide Power
Age: 21yr 7mth    Games: 14     Born: April 1, 1991
Height: 186cm     Weight: 80kg     Position: Defender
Last Drafted: Round 1, Pick #16 2009 National Draft
Last Drafted By: Port Adelaide Power

Jasper McMillan-Pittard (born 1 January 1991) is an Australian Rules footballer currently playing for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was one of 3 Port Adelaide players drafted in the first round in the 2009 AFL Draft.
He is an athletic and versatile player whose kicking skills and ability to read the play can hurt the opposition. The left-footer can also provide plenty of run from defence. A Vic Country U18 representative in 2009, he scored 10.40 mins for the 3 km at Draft Camp, but was unable to do speed work as he was recovering from injury. He was rated by the AFL clubs as the best interviewee at the camp. He averaged 18 disposals in 13 matches for the Falcons with an efficiency rate of 71 per cent. He also played senior football for Torquay Football Club in the Bellarine Football League in 2008.
In early 2010, Pittard decided to shorten his surname by dropping "McMillan" for simplicity.
Pittard debuted for the Power in the opening round of the 2010 NAB cup alongside seven other rookie players. Although he didn't stand out as much as some of the other debutantes, he contributed with 3 kicks and 3 handballs.
After a 25 possession match against Adelaide in round 4 he was nominated for the 2011 AFL Rising Star Award
In 2011, while only playing 13 games he was outstanding, cementing a place in the best 22 and finishing 7th in the clubs B&F.
In 2012 he played one injury effected game and that is all she wrote.

Rookie Player Rating (DEF) - 7.8/10 - Well he is going to be a star, make no mistake he just will be. But I cannot see it being in 2013. A first round draft pick and a perfect candidate for your DT, being a hard running possession winning defender. He came along very nicely in 2011 and may have broken out in 2012 but went into the season injured and when he did play he was badly injured again.

With a big preseason he may break out in 2013, he is very very good and monfries has written of his surprise at how good some of the kids at port are including pittard. But he has 14 AFL games in him, I think he needs another season yet before we see a breakout season of an 80 average.

Given the likelihood of getting him at a rookie price he is very tempting and a guaranteed cash cow for your back line if fit - highly recommended.

Rating based on - Price - potential - first round pick - 3rd preseason.

2012 WRAP:  I was on this guy coming into 2011 and it was a bold prediction, most AFL players who breakout do so in their 3rd season NOT thier second season. Again this old reliable rule of thumb proved to be correct. No guarantee he will break out in 2013 but everything points towards exactly that eventuality. Expect a close to 20 point per game average increase in 2013 which is by definition a break out season.

Mid Priced Player Rating - (MID/FWD) - 8/10 - I am giving him an 8 out of 10, may be generous and it may be low too, the kid is certainly right in the window to have a breakout season, but he is priced at a 75 average, so you need him to lift by at least 15 PPG to keep him. Not a bargain pick by any stretch but still a potentialy discounted premium if he does have a breakout season. Will get more time in the midfield with retirements and older players spending less time in there. A genuine solid chance to become a premium 90+ average forward for a price tag of 75avg.

Watch his preseason and where he is played in the NAB Cup I have a feeling he is needed FWD mostly but if he can get midfield rotations and win lots of it there as well as finding the goals he is almost a sure thing to lift that average to 90+ and become a premium in 2013.

Rating based on - potential, opportunity in side to step up, ability, price.

FF Profile & Discussion:  http://www.fanfooty.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,67827.0.html

Introduction
After being initially overlooked by AFL recruiters as a junior, Tom Rockliff has proven to be one of the Lions' greatest success stories in recent times. The once clever and creative midfielder/forward has become an elite runner who can accumulate plenty of the ball. The 2011 Club Champion now forms a critical part of the Lions' promising midfield brigade.

Background
• Hailing from Benalla in country Victoria, Tom Rockliff is a natural footballer who achieved almost everything during his final year as a junior footballer.

• He was a standout for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup U18 competition, kicking a competition-high 59 goals as a small forward and averaging 23 disposals per match.

• He kicked four or more goals on eight occasions including a season-high eight goals against the Sandringham Dragons in Round 13.

• He also helped lead the Bushrangers to their first TAC Cup premiership since 1998 with 30 possessions and four goals in the U18 Grand Final. His super individual performance was overshadowed only by team-mate Steele Sidebottom, whose 10 goal effort from the midfield earned best-on-ground honours.

• His consistent season with the Bushrangers culminated in him winning the Club’s Best & Fairest award â€" the John Byrne Medal â€" ahead of highly fancied team-mates Jack Ziebell and Sidebottom.

• He also represented Victoria Country in the 2008 NAB U18 championships where he ranked second overall for goals and first in score assists.

• He was largely considered to feature in the first two rounds of the 2008 National Draft â€" but was surprisingly overlooked by all 16 AFL clubs at the selection meeting.

• With one remaining spot on their senior list, the Lions earmarked the country Victorian and eventually drafted him with their first selection (Pick No.5 overall) in the 2008 Pre-Season Draft in December.

2009
• Rockliff suffered a minor setback early in his first pre-season when he developed shin splints. However, he worked hard to regain a strong fitness base and soon became an integral part of the Lions Reserves side.

• He split his on-field duties largely between the midfield and forward line where his uncanny nous around goals and ball-winning ability were features of his game.

• Regular 30-plus disposal efforts coupled with a number of multiple goal-scoring performances saw Rockliff eventually selected to make his senior AFL debut against Collingwood at the MCG in what was also Simon Black's 250th match.

• The Lions' sixth debutant for the season also locked horns for the first time with former Murray Bushrangers premiership team-mate Steele Sidebottom who was drafted to the Magpies.

• Unfortunately Collingwood accounted for the Lions by 40 points on that occasion and Rockliff received only limited game time. He returned to the Lions Reserves the following week.

• His standout performances with the Lions Reserves were recognised at the end of the season when he was the only Lions player selected in the AFLQ Velocity Sports Cup Team of the Year.

2010
• Despite managing just one senior game in 2009, Rockliff emerged this year as a future star for the Lions.

• After a gruelling pre-season, Rockliff found himself a consistent member of the Lions’ senior side and undoubtedly one of the team’s most improved players.

• He played in 19 matches and averaged 22.8 disposals per game, which put him fourth at the Club.

• Arguably Rockliff’s best game of the season was in round 17 against Geelong at Skilled Stadium where he racked up a career-best 32 disposals.

• Rockliff’s efforts and form were rewarded when he finished third in the NAB Rising Star awards where he polled 24 votes.

• Rockliff was awarded the Rookie of the Year at the Club Champion Awards, and finished 12th overall.

2011
• Fresh from a breakthrough season, Rockliff took his game to a new level in 2011 and capped off a stunning third year with the Lions by becoming the youngest player ever to receive the Merrett-Murray Medal as the Club Champion.

• After being elevated into the Lions' Leadership Group at the beginning of the season, he played 20 of a possible 22 matches in 2011 and averaged a Club-high and career-best 27.7 disposals per game.

• Such was his consistency, Rockliff collected no fewer than 23 disposals in any game - with the exception of the Round 9 clash against North Melbourne when he was substituted off the ground before half time with a strained calf. The injury also forced him to miss the next two matches.

• As well as being a consistent accumulator, Rockliff also worked hard defensively and ranked among the top handful of Lions players in total tackles. In fact, he laid a remarkable 27 tackles over the final two matches of 2011.

• He finished the season in outstanding form, with 30-disposal efforts in seven of his final nine matches - including twice collecting a career-best figure of 34 possessions in back-to-back matches against Adelaide and the Gold Coast SUNS.

• His stunning finish to the season proved enough to edge him ahead of team-mates Simon Black and Jack Redden to win the 2011 Merrett-Murray Medal as the Club's Best & Fairest player.

• Rockliff and Black also shared the honour of being the top-polling Lions players at the Brownlow Medal count. Rockliff's polled nine votes (the first of his career) including a three-vote performance against Port Adelaide at the Gabba.

THE 2012 WRAP: Spent a lot of his time playing FWD, while owners like myself cursed and hated on Voss for doing it. Every time Rockliff played on the ball they performed much much better, but it seemed only DT players on FF could see that and not mr Voss.

Still had a solid season and would have made a great pick for your FWD line,as a pure mid he was a disaster and a totally unacceptable choice for any teams DT midfield.

recent article general in nature: http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/brisbane-lions-launches-campaign-2013-week/1614602/

Premium Player Rating - MID/FWD? - 6.5 to 9 / 10 - Ok so this is one where I must rate very low for a MID ONLY and very high for a MID/FWD. Rockliff is an elite midfielder of the competition, but Moloney is there now and Zorko and surely Polec is further along after another preseason too. We saw Voss use Rockliff more fwd this season and there is every chance we will see more of the same in 2013. Originally recruited as a FWD he makes a far better MID, but who are we to advise Voss. I would back him to get enough midfield rotations to make a SUPERB FWD PICK in 2013, but I would back him to get enough time off the ball to be a VERY RISKY MID PICK in 2013.

Rating based on - what position will he be assigned? - Elite midfielder - otherwise a small forward who plays taller due to his skill at marking overhead, can find the goals, playing fwd he is an unpickable mid only, but playing as much in the middle as he will he is a solid fwd pick.

We will see what we see when the DT positions come out. My bet MID ONLY. And a no for me as such.

tbagrocks

The thing is he's still just so young for an elite mid, can and should bounce back

The rating and Rockliffs DT scoring has nothing to do with Rockliff and everything to do with Voss.

Rockliff racked up 30 possessions and DT tons every time he spent most of the game on the ball, but when his genius of a coach sent him fwd he may have been useful, that is open for debate , but what he definitely was (mostly) was a DT black hole.

you simply aren't going to get elite mid DT scores out of players who spend a large % of their time FWD.

still he may return to a full time midfield on ball role in 2013 and that would make him a bargain pick even if mid only, but how will we know for sure..... broughton (2012) anyone ?

Glad to see this thread back, Colli!

Any chance you could have a look at Footscray's Tom Campbell (R/F)?
