Brisbane Lions Vice-Captain Josh Drummond has today announced his retirement from AFL football.

Drummond, 29, informed the Club of his decision to retire last night.

Drummond, a product of the Sunshine Coast, said that after playing 94 senior games over nine seasons, he could no longer put his body through another AFL campaign.

“It’s a tough decision because I love footy so much and I love being a part of the Brisbane Lions, but I had to accept that I just can’t do it anymore,” said Drummond, who has battled ongoing hip issues.

“I didn’t want to be a burden on the Club and I had to start thinking about life after football.

wow Brisbane are really freeing up some room in their salry cap.
I thought we might have been able to trade him at least if we didn't want to pay him?

Probably one of the best and most influential players to play less than 100 games.
An extreme talent that was crippled by injury.

Ringo

Received this info via message at work and was shocked at the decision. His contract negotiation had stalled so hope this did not play a part in the decision   Thought he had a couple of years left in him but he has succumbed to his injury problems.  A pity such a talent has been cut short by injuries, one of the most accurate long kickers in the game.

Well done Josh and all the best in retirement.

maybe his JS, dunno about his scoring potential- drummond was out 1,2,6 and golbys scores didnt seem to change.

does this help someone like golby?
Will also possibly enhance Docherty's prospects as well.  See Harwood, Yeo, McKeever, Golby,Docherty, Wrigley, Lester and Crisp fighting out 3 positions. We have finally depth in our backs but forwards still a little concern.
Just hope we do not get into a bidding war for Tippett.
