FREMANTLE strongman Adam McPhee is considering his future and could be lured back to Victoria to continue his AFL career.

Often the scapegoat and fall guy with Fremantle’s inconsistent overall performances since he crossed back to the Dockers three years ago, the former Essendon club champion is out of contract.

He is understood to be attracting significant interest from clubs in his home state of Victoria.

McPhee turns 30 next month and under a Dockers policy with ageing stars has been offered only a one-year contract to extend his time at Fremantle.

The disciplined defender and fitness fanatic probably turned in the finest of his last three years at Fremantle this season under new coach Ross Lyon, though McPhee did play 23 games in his first season back at the Dockers under Mark Harvey in 2010.

He was used weekly by Lyon this season with specialised defensive assignments whether literally in the Dockers backline or at times as a forward with strategic instructions to nullify an opposition running defender.

McPhee played 21 of a possible 24 games this season including finals against Geelong and Adelaide and only missed a block of three games from Rounds 8-10 with a nagging thigh complaint.

It is understood that McPhee’s durability, versatility to play in defence, up forward or even in run-with negating assignments is appealing to some Melbourne-based clubs.

I suspect a lot of teams would be interested in McPhee - can play as a backman, tagger or a forward and always goes hard at the contest.

Freo fans have really shat me off with their constant berating of McPhee - he has 1 bad kick and gets slammed where as every other player can do no wrong.

I personally will be upset if McPhee goes back to Melb (for the 2nd time as I dont think we should have traded him the first time to the Bombers)

i agree that he is hard done by, even by our own supporters
but at 30 surely noone would be looking at him?

Fixed it for you

McPhee is super fit and hasnt lost any speed or strength, and at 30 I still think he wont have a problem getting a contract.
