Welcome to my SuperCoach diary for 2013! This is where I will document everything to do with my SC team for the 2013 season. Every change to the team, all my thoughts, every strategy - Absolutely everything.

I realise it's too early to start doing stuff like this, but after RL issues kept me out of the game for 2012, I'm keen to get back into things.

Below I will always have my most recent team listed, it will be updated every time it's changed along with thoughts/reasoning in a separate post.

Current Team

Yes, I know I just posted this in the OP but that will be updated and don't want to lose the inaugural team. :)

Not that much thought actually went into this, didn't fit as many prems in as I'll want and didn't make many MPP links at all.

It's difficult to select rookies without
a) Knowing which mature agers get picked up
b) Knowing which clubs the draftees go to

So I ignored that a little bit and just picked highly touted youngsters.

After draft day I'll likely drop JJK for a rookie, given the fwd depth in this draft there will be quite a few playing forward rookies so I'll look to capitalise on that. May even drop Roughie for a rookie and move the money into the midfield depending on a few things. Not particularly hot on Broadbent, great player but his price range is a bit awkward and not sold on his potential for improvement in 2013, so I'll likely look to move him out as well.

Sorry Troopa. :-[

If it helps I didn't hype him up that much. ;)

Don't have room for them yet. that being said I have faith Cotch, JS and JPK can average close to what they can for significantly less money.

That being said, this is just a preliminary team. A scaffold, just to work off for the future. Not truly an accurate indication of what I intend to take into 2013 yet.

Made a couple of changes this morning. Subbed JJK out for Gray, which freed up a bit of cash. Also put brought Walker in for Roughy (for now) just because I felt like it. Expecting big things from Tex in 2013 and think he could be a valuable addition.

Those two moves leave me with a bit of cash left over to upgrade players down the track. Broadbent was the guy I had in mind for that but leaving him in for now. Nice to have a bit of a cash buffer any way.

I've also been considering moving Selwood out to bring a Pendles or Watson type.

Nice idea Sid - would be interesting to see how the team goes over 2013. I've done DT for a few good years now but thinking about giving SC a crack in 2013 for the fun of it. Care to give a bit of feedback on our prelim squad? Obviously rooks may change (Colq, Membrey, Daw etc) but otherwise pretty happy with the balance. I think Moloney will be a gun at Brisbane if he gets his attitude right. Monfries, Yaz, Pedo and Goldy are my dark horses and should be quite unique (hopefully) given their prices and outside prejudice.

TEAM NAME: McRathSC
DEF: B. Goddard, B. Gibbs, P. Hanley, B. Lake, C. Yarran, C. Pedersen, S. Docherty (B. Staker, S. Colquhoun)
MID: G. Ablett jnr, S. Pendlebury, J. Kennedy, M. Murphy, B. Moloney, B. Crouch (J. O'Meara, J. Viney)
RUC: T. Goldstein, M. Leuenberger (J. Daniher, M. Daw)
FWD: L. Franklin, D. Martin, J. Roughead, A. Monfries, N. Bock, C. Knights, M. LeCras (T. Lee, T. Membrey)
CASH LEFT: $0

Leaving absolutely nothing in the bank may be a good omen haha. Any advice for a SC rookie?

Cheers and look forward to seeing how your team evolves coming into R1.

Been tinkering with this the last few days. The current team has quite a few risks in it and might chicken out as next season approaches but for now I'm feeling adventurous.

Took Yarran, Smith and Watts down back which freed up the space to turn a rookie into Murphy in the middle. Happy with the way the mids are looking at the moment but if I can free up a little bit more cash I might try and get GAJ in for Selwood down the track.

Added a couple of risks up forward with Wright and Monfries, the risk lies in how unique they are not the players themselves though. I'm pretty confident both can be amongst the top averaging forwards this year.

LeCras and Leuen still making me nervous and am considering bringing in a more reliable second ruck with my next set of trades.

Absolutely, always happy to offer advice if I can. :)

For rookies, it's pretty early and like I said in the OP (I think I did, my memory might be failing me..) it's exceptionally hard to pick without knowing where players are going, and only players set to go first or second round are in fanplanner at the moment. For example I'll definitely be steering clear of Plowman but he's in at the moment because he's pretty much the only option. :P

Players that I think are ready to make an immediate impact would be Grundy (already weighs over 100kg if I'm not mistaken), Wines, Colquhoun and Vlastuin but it's almost impossible to say without knowing where kids are going.

Keep an eye on Anthony Tipungwuti as well, doubt he'll make a mark in 2013 as he needs to work on his tank, but has he work ethic and the talent to make it in the big time.

Overall the team is looking really good, there isn't a whole lot that can go wrong and I think that Hanley and Lake could work out really well and prove valuable PODs during the season. Pedersen is an interesting pick, with Melbourne picking up Dawes they may not chase him any more (although haven't been following trade week as closely as I usually would be due to exams) and if he does stay at North I'd definitely steer clear. I'd think he would have gotten at least a dozen games this year but just doesn't seem to get picked.

Midfield is pretty much faultless, premiums and rookies is tried and tested and will hold up more often than it lets you down. Don't personally rate O'Meara but rookie selections will become clearer later.

Only other thing that worries me is the amount of up and down players in the forward line, I'm a lover of consistent players and having so many guys that have high standard deviations could end up hurting you if the stars line up and they all score lowly in the same week.

...sorry for the wall of text. :-[

Ha! Maybe one of us should actually test this notifications mechanism to see if it works? It would be some breakthrough if it did. :P

@ tabs - Yup, Brodie Smith. Have been doing some more tinkering the last few days and will probably get he updated line-up here soon-ish.

I would have told you if you'd asked. :P
