Thought I'd start a thread on Mick hours before an announcement that will have him coach of Carlton for 2013. Well it must be true as Wikipedia already have him coach.

Do you think he can take Carlton to a premiership?

He has the experience of knowing how to win one. 1980 Richmond as a player. 1992,1994 West Coast Coach and 2010 Collingwood Coach.

He has a 58% winning record as a coach over a 28 year coaching career. He's only coached a team to miss finals 5 times, once with Footscray and 4 times with the woods. Its a pretty impressive record especially in his initial few years at each club. West Coast (flag), Collingwood (Grand Final) Footscray 3rd.

So what everyone's thoughts on him being able to bring home the bacon at Carlton?

i think he can with there list and if they get Cloke, they wuld have made top 6 this year if they did not have so many injuries so they are not far off the mark however a finals campaign this year would have been some good experience

in saying that he would want to win one is 2013 because GC and GWS will be in contention and making life hard for teams in 2014 & beyond

from Mick's press conference

"Will you be making a play for Travis Cloke?"
Mick: "Absolutely"

Well what a surprise the new Carlton coach is Mick Malthouse. I never saw that coming.......

Master Q

I think he can. We have the list. Add Cloke to that, and we are almost there.

If we get Cloke all the backmen get to play as backmen again  :P

pyronerd

If anyone can, Mick can.

whether you have the list on the other hand :P

Malthouse denied this on radio tonight  :-\

He stated unequivocally that 'he or his management team would not enter into discussion with Travis or his father David whilst a player (Travis) was on the eve of such an important final' - he actually laughed at the suggestion he would chase Travis at this stage of the season.

Malthouse also said his head was spinning at the end of season leave arrangements around the club, for e.g.. 6 year players get six weeks rest, 8 year players get eight weeks rest, 10 etc... - it will mean he won't have the entire group together as a structured unit for another TEN weeks  ::) flower me, that'll almost be Christmas FFS !

Ho, ho, ho, good luck Father Malthouse - I wonder if the Carlton board has a 'Claus' that sees Mick hand over to Juddy in three years  ???

ha really? those were his exact words today.

imo just because they have mick coaching doesn't mean they will win a flag the players have a poor attitiude why else did they lose to the suns just using that as an example mick will get cloke that is a done deal but but it is up to the players to work together and not rely on Judd, Murphy and Carrazo

Please learn to use punctuation. It actually hurts trying to read your posts... And no, one comma near the end of the post does not count! ;)

I think Mick can coach them to a flag in 2013 but I also think Ratten could have too.
They were flag favourites after they beat Collingwood in rd 3, then injury struck.
It was just unlucky. Rats did as good a job as anyone could missing the amount of guns he was missing.

Malthouse is certainly walking into a pretty good set up club

You must be joking ...or have your head in the sand!! As I said from day 1, I like Ratts but he should never have got the job to begin with. As just one example...to make statements at the beginning of the year that IF we have our 2 bookends in waite and jamison hold up then we're basically in with a chance... What a ridiculous statement!! No shower sherlock!!! Same for all teams but worse for us if we are actually relying on THOSE 2 especially!! Structure something regardless but with a fallback in case they get injured...again!! Oh, and what happened...they were injured and we had nothing...again...for 2nd/3rd year in row and had to watch moves all year like you or i ould make -aka thinking duigan was a forward because it worked once. It is just crap! Check previous threads of mine at start of year. Malthouse will be better at establishing a much better structure to build on. Roos would've been better as he would've set things up and then maybe have been around for 5-10 years to see his work come to fruition- hopefully! The arrogance of Carlton in general astounds me. When are they going to stop talking about top 4 prospects, flags etc..?? I don't care if they do have the best 22- you need a best 28-30 until you can even think about making outlandish statements! Let's start thinking about what we CAN actually control & let those things look after themselves. Will be great to see a new team in place, particularly interested in the development coachIng now Harris has gone. don't like Cloke BUT I think we need him with the way our list now lies. We can't afford to waste any more time trying/hoping to bring others through with the judd era coming to a close the next couple of years.

I didn't see you all flowering doging when he picked up a piece of shower team that had won the wooden spoon 3 years out of the last 5, and  hadn't made the top 8 in that time, and moved your team to three consecutive top 8 finishes, including 5th place in 2011, took you to premiership favourites in the early part of the season, before he was let down by injuries, and a moronic leadership group (Good job being an asshole Captain Judd).

I may have misread your post though, since it was just a massive wall of text tbh.

That being said, way too much blame is dumped on the coaches. When you're given lemons, you make lemonade.

When you're given a sack of shower, (not so much ratten, more primus in this case), it's flowering hard to make it taste like anything that isn't shower and water.

Bluesman

Sorry zip but yeah am pretty passionate! Haha. To blame this year on injuries is looking at the surface only - and obviously shows you don't watch the way the blues have played! Sorry mate but I must disagree with you on this..
