Shocking news, thoughts and prayers are with John's family and friends.

Gone far too young, RIP...

Cicjose

a player who was ready to take the next step in his career and something like this happens......

heartbreaking for those that gave him the opportunity but even more so to those
that have stuck by him in the good times and when times were tough

condolences to the family and friends who should regard him as a person who was willing to commit himself to the sport as a youngster to become good enough for a second round draft pick

then to developing his role for his team at AFL or local level during his stints and Collingwood and Port Adelaide

RIP

RIP to such a young life.

Just a word please do not speculate as to what has happened.

Very saddened to hear the news and my sympathies to his families.

As has been said this is no time for speculation as to how.  Let the investigation run its course as a mark of respect to his family and girlfriend.

well said Cic

Good to see everyone coming together - it's just a tragedy. I can't stop thinking about how devastated his family would be

As a port supporter, John its sad to see you leave so soon.
Condolences to his family, gf, friends, past and present teammates. Very warming to see the support pouring in though
Sad day... as is always the case with a death, it puts many things in perspective.

Spare a thought also for Peter Rohde.
Imagine going over there, a 24hr transit trip to be there with John's family and the players. That is full on.

Would be such a hard job to do, Admire Peter's courage in doing this.

even though I am a Crows fan and do not like Port, I still cannot help but be saddened by this death. Had the world at his feet and his career was just starting to take off. No matter which team you support you cannot help but feel for the club, his family, his friends and his teammates. They say that the good die young, and this guy seemed like a ripper bloke. RIP John McCarthy.

Out of respect, I've changed my display pic to remember him. :'(

RIP John McCarthy. A life cut far too short.
