R.I.P John, terrible waste of a young life. Much too common in Australian culture.

Hopefully many young people can take a lesson out of this tragedy, of just how dangerous it is to drink copious amounts of alcohol.

I'm not arguing that it's not dangerous, just that people are gradually becoming aware of the risks.

Tobacco kills around 15 000 australians every year, compared to alcohol which directly kills around 3500 australians every year.

Indirectly alcohol kills more through drink driving, accidents, fights etc. but you can't directly blame that on the drug itself, alcohol lowers inhibitions, but when it comes down to it, it's still the choice of the person to get behind the wheel, king hit someone from behind, or unfortunately, try jumping to a palm tree from a 10m roof top.

as I said, the incidences of young people drinking at dangerous levels has decreased over the last 10 years.
