QuoteFremantle had an open training session in wintry conditions this morning ahead of Saturday’s Elimination Final against Geelong at the MCG.

I found this part interesting

QuoteTowards the end of the session, the squad broke up into two groups, one comprising players who have been competing in the WAFL, and the other in the AFL side.

Notably, Alex Silvagni joined the AFL players, while Grover trained with the WAFL group.

i think i'd rather Grover than Silvagni,
His experience could be the difference and Silvagni has been pretty ordinary in the wafl this yr

bunyip

Do you think it is a lack of options? Grover doesn't seem to be in favor

valkorum

I think they will go with Silvagni as he is the future.

bunyip

yes valk, but what about the now!
Seriously, what chance do you give Freo. My opinion is, because it's in Melbourne and we are playing well at the moment, we are 60/40.

add no Stevie J
70/30

bunyip

What! Are you saying we have a better chance of winning without Stevie J. Come on Ric. He's a star and will be missed. If anything it evens the teams up a bit, and yes, I know about McPharlin. I think though that Stevie is more important to us from a structural point of view.

I think you might have the Cat Blinkers on there Bunyip.  McPharlin is argueably our most important player from a structure point of view.  He marshalls the backline and takes on the most dangerous forward week in, week out, and wins.

I think McPharlin out for us is a bigger loss than Stevie J out for you.

and by taking the most dangerous fwd he free's up Johnson to rack up the marks across half back

Sadly I think I was right. We missed his scoring involvements and his ability to create opportunities for others.

valkorum

I dont think Stevie J would have made the difference in this game.

AFEV

I'm going to agree with Bunyip here. Stevie J is far more important to Geelong than most people realise. Yeah he has that 'x factor' and is an extremely good player, but his influence is far more substantial than that.
