Goddard has signed a 4-year deal with Fremantle. Will be announced early this week  :o

add to the fact he is a member of the Royal Perth Golf Club

Ok, so I'm a bit confused around the free agency rules - If this is true, does StKilda get anything in return for him?

I'd hope so. It's my main concern about free agency.

Actually don't mind losing Goddard. If he ends up at Freo he probably has a better chance of winning a flag there than here. Would be frustrated though if we lost him for nothing though.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENT
A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is one of the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service.

His original club, which chose to delist him, does not receive any compensation pick for the loss of the player.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENT
A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is NOT one of the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service.

A player has served ten or more seasons of AFL football at one club, has already come out of contract once in the period after serving his first eight or more seasons at his club, and is now out of contract.

ALL OTHER MODES GET COMPENSATION

+1 This surprised me. Ross is known for making slutty backmen (see Duff int he second half of this year) and M. Johnson.

After Broughton I've become rather pessimistic towards Ross Lyon.
