The thing is, even at 650k, he is unlikely to drop that much in price. This year from his starting price of 600k, he only went down to 565k by Round 4 (too early to trade him in with cash from rookies), and the next price drop was down to 573k in Round 13, but by then you've missed out on so much scoring that it's not funny. The reality is that missing out on 20 points a week (comparing him to another top 6 premium) does hurt your team a lot, especially since that turns into 40 points due to the Captain score.

I'm personally going to have GAJ and Swan in from that start, and that way whoever is smashing it early, I know I'll be able to captain them. It's more worth it to take risks in the forward/backline, IMO.

Windigo

Starting with Swan again.

Then just sit back all year and get all his scores.....And listen to everyone without him talking themselves up about "how it was a good idea to get him 30 k cheaper or something.'  :P

good way of looking at it!

i reckon i'll be starting Ablett, Swan, Cotch, A. Swallow... Reckon it'll be worth it in the end

Actually I change my mind...

Swan, GAJ, Beams, Cotchin at this stage for me.

Pendles, Jobe and Lids outside chances of starting..

Kellogscrunchynut

I'm thinking all you would have to do to fit Swan in is just trim the fat elsewhere.

brent007

He'll be my number one picked again. Best player in DT history. I'm thinking Swan, GAJ, Cotchin as my three gun mids.

Shihan7

He's my number one pick every year!

Great info there, nice stats and it sounds right to me. Looking at it that way, it really seems worth it. :)

Probably will get Swanny, but if I need to free up a little cash, I MIGHT get someone instead :-\

Still quite unsure, but he's gonna be MEGA. Have a looong time to decide though :)

It's gonna be this year all over again....
To start with Swan or not...

I won't be starting Swan or GAJ next year, though I started both of them this year and have started Swan in all of the last three seasons. I'll save a fair bit of cash and get younger premiums who are still improving like Pendlebury and Cotchin. I know the idea of Swan having a bad year seems ridiculous, but if that does happen, at his price it will really screw up the DT season of anyone who picks him.

True you might find players who are better value... but the reality is, because of the captain system, every extra point you get from having him over another top mid is of course doubled, so over the season even if Swan only average's 10 more points than the next best player (eg GAJ or perhaps Cotchin), over the season that'll be 20. That's why him and GAJ are worth the premium in price, because you need that dominant captain choice every week or you'll be immediately behind.

I personally haven't every started with Swan in the last 3 seasons, and I've seen how that has hurt my team week in week out. No way I'm going to miss out next year, I'll just look for more value in other positions, but I think the biggest risk is not starting with that top scoring player.

Holz

Lots of good rookies this year and with no GWS or GC its the time to go gun rookie.

Viney, OMeara, Crouch, Daniher etc.. will all be super cheap im planning on going a very expensive midfield

with Swan, Ablett, and 2 out of Cotchin, Pendels, Murphy.

Tempted to do the same Holz in the mids, will have to see if i can make it work but thats the plan.

Will all the rookies be guarenteed regular games though. I was thinking of going the other way and going with more of a mid-price team even in the midfield. I think this thread has changed my thinking in regards to picking Swan. Might pick Swan & Gaz as well as three smokies that I've been thinking about :)

There is alot of water to go under the bridge before we get going again, pre season and Nab will dictate which way i decide to go.
