Interesting that these reports were released at the same time of this AFL article saying he is safe (for now)

Either way as a Carlton supporter I am not happy about this if he has been sacked. The man has pretty much done everything he could this season with what he had available. Even if you base this sacking on the GC result, he does not kick the ball for the players (Carlton one every statistical category against GC apart from disposal efficiency which was a terrible 52%), he did not miss simple shots at goal in the 3rd quarter, he actually made some decent coaching moves to help get them back into the game (Walker back, Yarran forward). The midfield group are arrogant and refuse to run both ways. They think that all they have to do is get the ball forward and not follow their man. Judd and Murphy are the two main offenders in this category. They pick and choose when they want to go. Eddie Betts chase on Harbrow was F'ing disgusting. He stopped chasing him and started pointing at Armfield to chase him. The blame for that loss should be squarely on the players shoulders, not Rattens. The playing group started believing their own hype and have a sense of entitlement when in reality half the team should have been dropped VFL level but were lucky to get a game due to injuries. This looks like it could be a Mark Harvey situation all over again. Did Geelong sack Bomber Thompson in 06 when they had a disappointing season?

Carlton had to go into the Bulldogs game with Levi Casboult as their number one ruckman that is how bad the injuries got to their key position players. Casboult was a first game player and a forward yet he was thrown into the ruck. That was possibly the worst team since 07, (might have actually been worse then some of the teams they fielded that season) yet they were still able to win the game. Carlton managed to beat Collingwood twice this season, Richmond twice, smashed Essendon two weeks ago, beat Freo in Perth. They have had some bad losses this season but they have also not had the cattle on the park to get it done (and in some cases have got it done anyway).

He might deserve to be sacked but surely you would want malthouse taking over, its not like hes getting replaced by a rookie. Its an upgrade. Malthouse will have murphy and judd running both ways

He should not be sacked. If you were to bring in an experienced coach it has to be Paul Roos and not Malthouse. Carlton is lacking  a defensive edge and needs a culture that Roos was able to develop up in Sydney. The way Cloke, Swan and co act, I have not seen that happen up in Sydney.

Is defaulting to Malthouse just Carlton taking the easy option?

When I think about Carlton recruiting a high profile, somewhat aging Premiership coach it's hard not to thik its deja vu. This is exactly the circumstances which brought Dennis Pagan to Carlton!

That worked so well last time  ::)

I still think Carlton should have handled this like Geelong did with Mark Thompson in 06 going into 07. Shows the difference between a well run club who has won premierships in the last 15 years and one who has struggled.

Kellogscrunchynut

No way did he deserve to be sacked it's mainly the fault of the players for their poor results.

McRooster

Leadership is solving problems. The day players stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.

-This is a quote from Colin Powell.

I believe that Carlton has lost belief in themselves as a group, Judd has steered Ratten to his path instead of the other way around.

Good luck Mick.

*Cruise, a most salient of points, very intuitive.

Well if Ratten was any sort of good coach then those habits would have been quashed, did you ever see Malthouse's players do that, or Lethal's when he was coaching, not very often

Hawka

Screw Malthouse
Give it to Richardson or Leon Cameron

Toga

i agree that the players egos is what has sunk the carlton ship.

you may think i'm wrong but i seriously think that as good a player as chris judd is, i don't think he is a very good leader. that's just my opinion though

jezzablue

i look at the playing group first for saturdays debacle... ratten will be a scaoe goat for the board if he's gone.

i am hoping that tomorrow will be a brighter day for blues supporters with ratts keeping his job, we're feel solidified as a group for surviving this media onslaught, the players have had a good think about the ramifications of them not pulling their fingers out and no longer taking their coach and spot in the team for granted...
stick it back up to the media and haters who have been rampant on him for some time.
maybe im dreaming...hoping...
good luck ratts!!
