I was reading another post on here (by 'me') and noticed a stat about Rockliff and his disappointing scoring this year.
Essentially, you can split his opponents this season into two groups: 1. Teams in the bottom 4. 2. Teams in the top 12. Noting, of course, that Brisbane is 13th but he never plays against his own team and Port Adelaide is 14th but the two teams are yet to meet.

Group 1 (Teams in the bottom 4)
He has played 6 games against these teams for 6 tons, a low of 110 and a high of 143.
Against these opponents, he averages a huge 128!

Group 2 (Teams in the top 12)
He has played 13 games against these teams for only 2 tons, a low of 61 and a high of 136.
Against these opponents, he averages a dismal 84.3...

Obviously, this is a significant difference and something that we don't expect from a supposed premium midfielder.

Interestingly, with 3 games to go in the season, this might not be all bad for Rocky. In his last 3 games of the season, he plays Adelaide (2nd on the ladder - yet to play them), Port Adelaide (14th on the ladder - yet to play them), and the Bulldogs (15th on the ladder - scored 141 last time).

So, one of these teams, Adelaide, is in the top 12, meaning he'll likely score less against them. However, Rocky did belt them for a 138 last year (his 2nd best for the season) and a 103 in his second against them in 2010. Maybe this will be a rare good performance against a good team?

The last game is against a team, the Bulldogs, that is in that bottom 4 category. He scored 141 against them already this year and looks the goods.

This leaves the Power, in 14th, who Rocky plays over in Adelaide. Last year, he scored 121 against them at home and in 2010 he had an 87 against them at AAMI. They sit in between our two categories so this one could go either way.

I guess the purpose of this is to, firstly, spark a bit of interest and, secondly, say that not all hope is lost with this guy! In fact, if you have any luxury trades and want to strengthen that emergency spot (or trade out Stanton), this guy might be a good option at only $400k!

To be fair to him, the bulldogs wouldn't have been 15th when they last played...

They were 13th, they were only above Port and Brisbane that they're below now. By the end of the round, after losing to Brisbane, they were 14th with just Port below them to be different from now. They were still a horrible quality of opponent.

Wow I genuinely hadn't realised just how rubbish they are... It's kind of gone under the radar, at least in Perth anyway.

My Mum tipped them against my mighty Tigers this week and I gave her a big lecture about why it was the wrong move :P

We beat them by 70 points, the first time we have beaten them since 2005.  That stat alone tells you how rubbish they have been this season.

I was at Blues v Lions on Saturday. Rocky camped at full forward for good parts of that game. Not all of it but certainly enough to affect his scoring.

This guy has to of had the biggest fall from grace. He has gone from hero to villain in less than a season. The end of last year many of us would have pencilled this guy in along with GAJ and Swanny for the next few seasons but he is now cemented his spot as a blacklisted player alongside the likes of Shaun Higgins and 211.

LaHug you LEgend!!! So happy I have the league bye this week for the Adelaide match so It doesn't matter with Rocky's score but your relisation of Rocky's scoring has restored my complete faith in him for the two matchs I need him most!!! :D Lets hope he gets 2 straight scores of 150!!! :D

MLS

I've had Rocky since R1 when he punched out a 120-odd against Melbourne. Since then he has been underwhelming to say the least. Averaging under 100 now as a midfielder he has become a liability in my team. Fingers crossed with your analysis LaHug

I have the week off in most leagues too so should be alright. Need him back and firing for the last few rounds!

I've had him all year too! He was my third picked after Swan and GAJ. Hoping he can finish strong.

I've also had him since the start of the year and also noticed his tendancy to beat up on the bottom teams. For this reason I actually named him captain in RD.17 against GC for a POD.

For whatever reason he has spent a lot of time forward this year and as Brisbane have been generally thumping the bottom teams he has kicked goals pushing up his score (11 in 6 games against bottom 4, only 6 in other 13 games).

I have Rocky in Supercoach too, so this week I am going to do everyone (including my DT) a favour.

If you bench a player, normally the fantasy footy gods will curse you and that player will score well.

So, since I won all my matches in the first week and am not playing anyone this week in SC, Rocky will be benched.

Thank me Sunday night boys!!!!!!!
