The ultimate starting squad.

I know hindsight is a beautiful thing but imagine you can go back in time and put together your initial starting squad again.
I have toyed around a little and assembled my best starting squad.

Team is;
D: Goddard, Scotland, Deledio, H Shaw, Waters, Clarke, Bugg (Morris, S Shaw)

M: Pendlebury, Ablett, Selwood, Watson, J Kennedy, Greene (Shiel, Magner)

R: Maric, Giles (Jenkins, Redden)

F: Franklin, J Lewis, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Porplyzia, D Smith, Milera (Dickson, Treloar)

Would have had $5200 left in the bank. With Ablett captain would have scored 2284 for the week, which is excellent considering most of the guys named scored pretty low in rnd 1.

There were 3 players that didn't start in rnd 1, they were Treloar (Rnd 3), Jenkins (rnd 7) & S Shaw (rnd 4).

Are there any changes you guys would have made to that squad?

S. Shaw need to be an upgrade, you don't start with him, maybe Ellis to Shaw?

if we had hindsight i wouldn't have pendles/heater/waters - they have missed too many. treloar came on later so AK would've started instead. and also wouldn't start with s.shaw someone like ellis.
gotta make room for Nroo had a flyer.

i'd replace waters and heater with geary and lake. and trade like a madmen

I hate to say it, but would you start with Stanton? Carved it up early on, made some cash and led the league for a while. Would probably go him to Ablett after he comes back in round 7...

Given the nature that if you were to pick your starting squad again, you wouldn't be going in with the mindset to sideways your premo's, so I wouldn't be starting Stanton.

If I had my time again I would've gone Cox, Maric, Giles & Redden. Lake should be in there as he was a bargain, as was Brad Ebert.

Agree that Eliis should be in there as Sam Shaw was a downgrade target

Yeah you would be right with Ellis > S Shaw.
I didnt think of Lake either, would somehow squeeze him in as well.
It was either Kennedy or Stanton, Pendles tore it up for the first 10 rounds so he had to be in your starting team. Maybe you could have also thrown in McIntosh instead of Jenkins, used Giles as emerg.
Milera would have turned into Zorko after rnd 8.
With the Brad Ebert one, you wouldnt want to start to many mid pricers, Waters, Maric & Porps would have been enough.
It hurts that I didnt end up with Danger in my starting team, had him there all pre-season then decided against it. Thought his scores of 70 occasionally would cost my team, but as we have found out, the forwards and defenders are both up and down, have learnt my lesson for next year with that one. Dont be afraid of some lower scores from Defenders or forwards, pick them!!!
For those that took the punt on Maric, well done. I for one didnt think he was better than Angus Graham, honestly thought he would have been number 2 ruck.

N Roo and Lewis had similar starts to the season, I am looking at the present with the starting squad, I would much prefer to have Lewis over N Roo. But yes he did go bang.

Im surprised Michael Johnson hasn't got a look in instead of maybe Goddard this would give you enough money (i think) to upgrade Shaw to Geary, Brian Lake or even Paul Bower maybe? Geary started the year of very good and just before his poor form hit during round 5 he was averaging 94 could of then been downgraded to a rookie who was on the bubble at the time.

I wish i had started with him. Will be one of my first picked next year.
